Hi I live in Idaho and I started thinking, does anybody know that our state exists outside of ourselves? I mean you never hear about us in any national news and when you do it's something so inane as to be looked over because California or Washington or hell Oregon.

I tend to forget some states exist, yours is one of them. Like you said, nothing really happens there. I tend to forget Idaho, The Dakotas, and even Wyoming exist. Just because nothing happens there.

I'll admit I'm a little curious as to how well other states remember Ohio. Besides our amusement parks and the Rock N' Roll hall of fame we don't have much.

As someone who just moved to Idaho from Washington in the last year, I have to say there really is not much to talk about. Idaho is a pretty simple place I really have not seen or heard of much that is really noteworthy.

All I know about Idaho is that it's where Kirk is from and like all people from Idaho in fiction his one goal in life was to leave Idaho and never return (though in all fairness, this seems to be the life goal of a lot of fictional characters from the great plains/deep south for some reason).

Idaho is in the same boat as Nebraska. The only thing we ever get mentioned for is having a terrible tornado sweep through. Otherwise everyone pretty much forgets it's a thing. At least Idaho has some interesting stuff. I spent about an hour there while my family was vacationing in Yellowstone. It seemed nice enough.

Typically because outsiders view them as rather boring places, and tbh they aren't far off most of the time.

Are they good places to live? Yes.

Are they interesting places to live? Not really. :/

Sorry fella, but all I hear about Idaho is how big its potato production is. Few games or movies ever have scenes there due to a lack of interesting scenery. Maybe if I was schooled in the U.S, but are they really required to learn all 50 states and all their captials? I had trouble enough with 13 provinces and territories.

Captcha: sorry dave

In elementary school (somewhere between 3rd and 5th grade, I believe) you are required to, but I don't know anyone who can name every state without having to think hard about some of them, much less every capital.

Of course. You're the ones who make potatoes, and while you're pretty religious and conservative you're not as crazy as Utah. So you're religious like the people from Utah, but chill like the stoners in Oregon :D

I actually considered making it the setting of a story I'm writing.

...

Unfortunately, Pennsylvania works for it better...

I know OF Idaho.
1) My dad used to say this rhyme, "G.I. Joe, let one go, all the way to Idaho."
2) There was this ugly chick at school named Ida so we called her Ida-hoe.

At one time (I'm not sure if this is still true) Idaho was considered the most "accent neutral" U.S. English spoken state. People learning English that wanted "no" accent listened to Idaho English. U.S. English speakers with a heavy accent (Bostonian, Minnesota, Georgia, Louisana, Texas, Valley Girl... whatever) would train in Idaho English to "get rid of" the accent.

It's been at least 10 years since I knew that was the case. This could have changed since.

I'm not an American and thus I have never been expected to remember all 50 states (I don't remember all 19 countries in my own country and I have never cared about geography so I probably wouldn't have remembered it anyway), but I do know Idaho is a thing. I couldn't place it on a map or say much more than that it's a state though.

However the fact that it's not mentioned often in national news isn't really a bad thing. The things that get you on the national news aren't positive unless there's too few negative news to fill the broadcast. At least that's how it goes around here.

Of course Idaho exists. It's that place that...is...um...called Idaho? Which is a sorta memorable name.
