Doing bad things

I'm not gonna lie, I like to do bad things. It manifests in a few ways, but I'd guess you'd say I have a fascination with vice. It's escapism, ultimately, and considering this website's title, I think appropriate. I'm not a bad guy, but bad things are exciting.

An example. Last summer I studied abroad for two weeks in Rome, Italy. We were brought to all kinds of academic things, which I appreciated, but I was even more engaged with the more perverse elements of Rome.

At night I went out and essentially hung out with a homeless drug dealer. He would point out the local prostitutes doing their thing with middle-aged travelers.

At another point in the trip, I found myself asking a cab driver where the best hookers were. He quoted me like 150 euro for the place he'd take me. The street walkers were like 50. I know because I inquired about the prices, and even had my "danger" alarm go off when I found myself following my homeless friend down a squalid alley.

I never ended up doing the hooker thing. Not because I have any aversion to prostitution, which I think should be legal, but because I found out Rome was sex-slave stuff run by the mob, and I didn't feel right contributing to that.

I had fun of this nature for two weeks. By the end of the week an exasperated tourmate yelled "will you stop talking about the illegal things you do," when I was bragging about how I smoothly avoided getting caught sneaking on the train that took me to our airport.

There's a rush that accompanies actions like this. I could go on about the bad things I do, but now I turn the question over to the forum.

Does anyone else like doing bad things, and if so, what are they?

Hang on, hang on... so your bad thing amounted to hanging out with a guy who dealt in drugs and asking the prices for the local hookers?

Okay then.

Anyway, I can't say I sympathise. I've done a handful of morally questionable things, but I had reasons for doing them. Not necessarily good reasons mind you (although in some cases I think the reasons were good) but it was never done for its own sake.

My bad, I'm not really in the mood to admit to a full on crime on a forum where my real identity could be confirmed pretty easily, so I told a story that I thought could be interesting. I thought other nefarious activity was implied.

I figured "bad" was a vague enough word to mean a lot of things.

Another bad thing I do: I never do this online, but I'm often a real-life troll.

I tend to devils-advocate everybody, and if they're the right type of person, I'll keep pushing buttons until they explode.

My most recent example was at a party with an uber-feminist woman than ended with her fiance threatening to attack me.

I also really pissed off a dude at a party. He was doing what guys always do, which was saying insulting things to his other male friends. I just continually accused him of flirting with them. He wasn't happy.

Good and bad is a matter of perception.

That being said, i'm a terrible person. But as the kids these days say " you only live once" ( or yolo if you're a hipster). Anything i do, it's because i want to, and i won't apologize for it. However, part of being an adult is accepting the consequences of you're actions. Remember , everything is legal until you get caught.

I'm glad you noticed that. Part of my interest in making this thread was to see what various people considered "bad."

Because we know "bad." It's the opposite of "good." Doing something bad is doing something not good. We all do things that are bad, but which of our actions would we directly classify that way?

He also totally didn't pay for a train ticket.

If your only problem with the sex trade is that it's mob controlled, and the women are forced into it, you should know that self-employed hookers don't want to bang random strangers either. They do it out of financial desperation. Morality aside, prostitution is unsanitary and only pursued by the desperate and unsanitary. I'm surprised you can interact with sex slavery and still maintain the opinion that prostitution should be illegal.

Anyways, I've done plenty of bad things but I'm not so proud of them that I want to brag about them on the internet.

No... that means you're a bad person. :/

Anyways, bad stuff holds no interest for me. I don't want to do illegal or bad things, I'm not interested in illegal or bad things, and people who do illegal or bad things disturb me.

I'm a goody two-shoes, and I prefer it that way.

Errr, no, in terms of what my moral compass tells me is "bad," I don't like doing bad things. I don't enjoy taking harming or taking advantage of people; I don't enjoy acting to the detriment of society; I don't even enjoy breaking the law. It doesn't mean I've never done any of those things, but I sure as hell won't do them just because they're wrong or illegal.

No offense, OP, but you just seem childish. Sneaking on a train gives you a rush? How much did you save, $10? Hanging out with drug dealers and possibly peddling drugs is exciting? Yeah...until you think about the victims of the drug use, or you get arrested and thrown in some shitty jail with actual, hardened criminals.

Depends on your definition of bad. I don't really consider doing drugs/drinking bad as long as I'm not putting others in danger (emotionally, physically, or whatever), so I guess no?

But by the standard, grade school definition of "bad", I guess yeah, I do a lot of bad stuff.

This shit is so scary dary I don't know what to say.

Sorry, I was watching the Gavison advert about heartburn, which both brothers suffer from for different reasons, but deal with in the same way (Gaviscon). I mean, your story was good too, but their struggle with heartburn was much braver and scarier. It lacked naughtiness until I realised that one of them ate a burger.
I chuckled. If I could high-five you for this comment, I would.

OT: Sure, I can see the allure of the "bad" side. Hell, I often harbour secret fantasies of becoming a stripper or even a prostitute myself, despite the fact I'm pretty sure I wouldn't enjoy the reality of either profession. I can definitely see the appeal of (most) drugs too, though I also see the significant downsides. Certain crimes have an appeal, even if only in theory. I like to have practically anonymous, meaningless sex, in large part because it's "bad" according to the standards of my upbringing (I also *gasp* eat junk food on a semi-regular basis and don't iron most of my clothes. I know, such badassery).

As you say, it's escapism. There's a reason we keep glamourising this stuff in films/on tv/in the lives of celebrities... From your post though, it really doesn't sound like you're actually going much further than the fantasy stage.

I'm sure I do plenty of bad things, depending on who you ask. I'm pretty sure I've broken the morals and ethics of many places by driving myself to work, leaving the house without a male accompanying me, and even just holding a job that pays me in currency. As many in this thread have pointed out, "bad" is pretty subjective, depending on where you are at the moment.

I generally don't go out of my way, however, to do things I, or my regional society, thinks are bad, though. I generally don't do things that are needlessly jarring or harmful to others. I don't really see the point in doing bad things because they are bad. If you think society's idea of a bad thing is wrong (and you do the thing because you disagree with the law), that's cool. Maybe you're right. Maybe you're not. But you're doing what you believe to be the right thing, and whether or not that's true will be worked out by society if others agree with you (see: drugs are being legalized, but no one has ever thought murder was a good idea). Doing a bad thing because it's "bad" just screams "I agree with this law, but I don't like people telling me what to do, so I'ma do this bad thing." I guess I just don't see this as a constructive use of my time.

Then again, I've never really seen the purpose behind trolling either (note: challenging someone's beliefs is not trolling. Being deceptive, manipulative, rude, and generally unhelpful is trolling). I guess it's funny to watch if you're not involved? Sometimes? If both people are dicks?

I like to live on the edge too. I like to partake in narcotics such as an ovaltine before bed, if im feeling extra dangerous I might add a teaspoon of sugar. Ive also robbed a cashier before, they undercharged me and I made a quick getaway (doing 32 in a 30) and did not return to the scene of the crime.

I was about to comment saying how this is pretty much what most men want all women to be like until I read the bit about not doing ironing :p

It sounds (from here) more like voyeurism and thrill-seeking than some sort of actual infatuation with wrong-doing. Do you know if you have a similar attraction to, say, extreme sports or adventure tourism?
