So, I guess some serious **** is going down in the year 2012 (December 21st?), not sure what, but lots of people say we're all gonna die. Awesome!
I don't want believe it's real, but out of all the doomsday scares, 2012 scares seem to be the most convincing ones, and still a little scary.
What do you guys think? Explain your thoughts and theories.

Isn't there an asteroid or something?
If there was an asteroid, I'm certain that we wouldn't know about it 4 years in advance...

Seriously.
If it follows a cycle, as most asteroids do, then we could know. I'm pretty sure it isn't an asteroid, but I'm pretty sure your counter point is flawed.

There is a huge asteriod hurtling towards Earth at the moment, but it's a long way off. Scientists are trying to develop lasers to destroy it.

Or they could just call Bruce Willis...

An asteroid could hit us at any time. Hell one went within spiting distance and we only knew about it after it had passed. We are far from safe, asteroid-wise anyway.

You have my Aerosmith.

EDIT

Sing with me, sing for the year, sing for the laughter and sing for the tear. Sing with me, if it's just for today, maybe tomorow the good lord will take you away.

Ha, I can picture it now...

"Three thousand years in the future, an alien vessel makes its way around the charred remains of a planet"

Alien 1: Captain, judging by the remains we found, it appears as though this planet was destroyed by some sort of rift in the space-time continuum.

Captain: How so?

Alien 1: Well sir, it looks like the creatures that inhabited this planet were semi-intelligent, and had even primitive entertainment devices called "video games". Somehow, at some point in their history, they made two games come out at the same time that should have never been made in the first place. Both games were such let-downs, that the collective shock worldwide was powerful enough to rip the fabric of our universe, and as a result, life on the planet died.

Captain: Very well. Fire the Sun-Breaker energy beam. I want this solar-system burned, and no evidence of this horrible occurrence to be left over. After that, lock the archives concerning this mission, and get as far away from this Achtoll-forsaken land as fast a possible.

Alien 1: YES-SIR!

Anyways, I have it on good authority that both Duke Nukem Forever and Spore will be coming out somtime in 2012, and I for one can't wait.

Well, if those Mayans were so smart, how'd Cortez do them all in eh? Thought so.

If you want hardcore Doomsday theories, this site will definately quench your thirst. Some of them are quiet disturbing and are hypotheticals based on obscure physics, but it's still good fun to read.

This radio show has a brilliant episode about 2012.

http://www.outthereradio.net/archives.htm

Here's the episode:

http://www.uga.edu/wuog/podcasts/outthere39.mp3
(Skip ahead to 18:30 if you want to get straight to the 2012 stuff.)

Supervolcanoes, massive sunspot activity, tectonic and climatic upheaval, economic catastrophe, political powderkegs... you don't need apocalyptic prophecies to tell you that something is up.

Doomsday has always been around the corner. There's no real evidence to suggest that the world will end other then some dead people's calendars.

Global warming will save the world. I'm a freakin' hero, spending money for the good of our earth..
