To much of the anger of my friends, I have recently gotten into the Dota 2 beta (somehow). However, despite watching many Dota 2 videos and such, I still seem to be a fish out of water in the game. I was hoping if you guys could give me some tips and advice on playing Dota so I don't suck as much.

I'm going into Dota 2 from playing about a year or so of League of Legends so I have a somewhat idea of how MOBA games work, but obviously Dota 2 is much different from LoL. I mainly having a hard time understanding how building your stats in the game work, how to use items effectively, and last hitting/denying creeps is much harder than LoL. I would also really appreciate if you would reccommend a champion that might be well suited for a new-comer and give me any other advice/tips you think would be useful. Thanks in advance

I think Sand king / Lina is quite easy.
Last hitting is much easier if you turn of auto attack ( at least for me)
I'm pretty new to Dota 2 as well so if you want to play some games you could add me on steam.
And I honestly use the recommended item most of the time, for an example as sand king you should have boots, blink dagger and depending on what you meet you can either buy Blade mail or Black king bar(if you meet spell caster team) and then I usually go with Heart.

This is most likely not a pro build but it works decent enough for me and I would recommend that you try to build your own builds since it can depend on how you play.

And of course. Practice, practice and some more practice.

Skeleton King and Drow Archer are great to learn with. Stay the fuck away from Invoker and hard carries like Faceless Void and Anti-Mage. It'll be rough at first, but once you figure it out the game is amazing.
