Hello fellow escapees!
As of 6:30 pm I have been gallivanting about my house with little to do as the North American League of Legends server is experiencing seven hours of downtime.
ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. [small](I'm in Brisbane, Australia!)[/small]

All that aside however, I'd just like to know - what do you, members of the Escapist, do whilst your online game of choice is experiencing downtime (LoL, WoW, HoN - whatever)

[small][small][small]And before you all point out how pathetic I am, I have no money. Hence my confinement to my home on a Friday night QQ [/small][/small][/small]

I have several single player games I've been meaning to go back to, or get around to playing. I would think that while some people might not have a "backlog" of games, they might have some they haven't tried or meant to try which they got on a Steam sale for like $2.50. Anyway, I usually play one of those.

Or usually, since I play enough online games, when one is down, I'm playing another.

LoL server's down? Play some Bloodline Champions! I'd estimate that half of the players only come on when LoL is down anyway, haha.

And I usually have other stuff to do that's non-gaming related - other hobbies and such...Work on music/guitar, watch a movie, read a book, browse forums like you're doing now, etc...

I'm also a big tabletop gamer (I should say my DAD is, really), so sometimes I play a lot of those instead when the servers are down.

Hey it's Friday night here as well (Melbourne bro). I'm playing Just Cause 2, so it's slightly bearable.
Lucky, I have a broken xbox 360 :/
The Unreal Tournament 2004 install disc is looking frightfully inviting..

Bloodline Champions is not a game I recommend getting into right now. Wait until the end of August/Early September - they're gonna put out a patch that will make it much better for newer players. Basically, take LoL and remove minions, towers, items, leveling, and make it just about the teamfights - arena style, 3v3, 2 minute rounds, first team to win 3 rounds wins.

Oh, and everything (EVERYTHING) is a skill-shot. Even melee attacks require you aiming towards the target and leftclicking.

Oh, and there's no mana. And no cooldown is longer than like 12 seconds or so. Most are like 4-5 seconds. And here's the best part: THERE IS NO RNG - no crits, no random damage-range abilities (they do have stuff like "does 18-38 damage, depending on how far away your target is" (think Taric's Stun)) but it's really a skill-based game designed from the ground up to be great competition.

It's fast, it's intense, it's a BLAST to play once you get decent at it, but it's EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING when you first start - so wait until it gets put on steam, gets more players, a more new-player friendly UI, some balance changes, etc...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But yeah, install that UT2K4, join the steam group, find a server, and kick some ass. People are still playing it online, or you can just wreck some bots on Facing Worlds...:) I started a new playthrough of UT'99 on my laptop not too long ago, been getting through it at work, haha.
But other online games are usually a good idea; maybe SC2 or one of the many FPS games that have 24/7 players.
Act like robert smith while the cure plays loudly or
Act like zach dela rocha while rage against the machine plays loudly or
Act like robert plant while led zeppelin plays loudly.
or perhaps rockstar of choice but i thought the make up on my robert smith imperosonation freaked people out more.
Well unless I feel exceptionally un-lazy my Friday night is 10 minutes of porn and afterwards a gaming marathon, bit of new stuff and a bit of old stuff too.
Wikipedia.org -> Random article -> press blue links until something interesting pops up.
Then without noticing, two or three hours may have passed!
Either that or I read forums!
