does the government have the right to draft people in the army? Most people will say no but what if you have not enough soldiers to fight a war and you are losing it. what if people are dying because their is just not enough soldiers.

What do you think?

Depends on the war.

For example I don't think my goverment has the right to draft people when the wars we are involved in now are not protecting us exactly. Furthermore we serve as peacekeepers in most of our engagements so thats a big factor. However if we were under direct attack then it would be a totally diffrent story.

The Government never has the right to draft people, regardless of how just they believe the conflict to be.

If you are old enough to be drafted, you are old enough to leave the country and become the citizen of another country if you wish; this can be your choice not to go to war. As long as you claim primary citizenship in your country, I believe you have an obligation to serve if drafted. It's the same premise as jury duty, just with more bullets.

We would all like to say no, but often in history a nation's survival and the well-being of it's people have depended on conscription. It may be necessary in some cases.

Say what you want about the draft...
The highest graduation and college attendance rates in American history were during the Vietnam era.

I elected not to enlist but would honor my commitment to my country if it requested me.
Reinstate the draft...

If we were invaded, I would be one of the first people to grab a gun, regardless if I was drafted or not.

However, with the wars we are engaged in today, I would refuse to go.

Typically draft and volunteer armies are culled from the poor. For example, in the old days you could avoid the draft by paying a fee; so only poor people had to go to war. I prefer the Roman model: all landowners (rich people) have to serve in the army at some point or another. Of course that evolved into feudalism which wasn't so great.

Take the Swiss style. Their citizens are forced to enter military training for two years, mandatory. It's a condition of citizenship. Incidentally, Switzerland has never been invaded. The founding fathers proposed a similar system, believing standing armies to be too corruptible. Cue Eisenhower "Military-industrial complex" speech.

Anyway, if our country were under attack, they wouldn't have to draft me, I'd sign up. As it is right now though, our army is just a corrupt, bloated, waste of resources.

That's one of the reasons we have the second ammendment.

To give hell to any son of a ***** who wants us dead.*

*Pardon the language but my inner marine pops in when invasion is being talked about.

This day in age, I don't think we're in danger of needing a draft. At least, not at the moment. The American military is huge and not in much danger of running out of young men and women who want to serve. If there was such a danger to my country and the world that demanded a stronger military presence then I would be in favour of it.

If we're talking about a draft to supply the wars currently going on in the world today then not a chance. I'm from Canada and I believe that countries like mine that have peace should use it's military to "keep the peace" overseas. Not spread it with bullets.

"Fighting for peace is like f---ing for virginity" - I can't remember where I heard this...

Governments have whatever rights their founders and lawmakers give them, so in the terms of OP, yes- they do. Is it right? Tough one. It's defensible, IMHO, only when fairly applied to the entire population. Bother that "selective service" noise.
