"Entertainment Weekly reports that the character will be the star of a new live-action, ensemble drama called Judge Dredd: Mega City One. The show is in ?early development? and ?talent will be announced at a later date.? What we do know is that that IM Global and games studio Rebellion are teaming up for it, and the people at those companies helped develop Battlestar Galactica, Helix, and the 2012 Karl Urban-starring Dredd film."

Excite?

Neat, here's to hoping they don't make the mistake of 'Judge Dredd is basically a cop, right? Let's make it a bog-standard procedural"

Oh please please please get Karl Urban back! He was so good as Dredd! Just the right level of cynical + badass + snarky.

That might work pretty well. My favourite Dredd universe stories were always the shorter ones that started and finished in a prog or two.

Because, y'know, that worked so well the last time Karl Urban starred as a cop in a futuristic setting...

(As in, Almost Human was cancelled - I actually quite liked the show itself.)

Is anyone else worried about where it's going to air?

Put it on Netflix. Or something on premium cable. You Can Not neuter this show and the feel for regular tv and/or basic cable.

I can't speak for that show, never saw it. But of all the criticisms I've heard leveled at the latest Dredd movie, I can't recall a single person saying "Karl Urban was a shit Dredd. He totally didn't capture the spirit of the character." Quite the opposite in fact. That was, from my experience, the one common thread that most people had about it. "Karl was a good Dredd." Now opinions about the rest of the film vary a lot, from person to person, but I don't think anyone thinks he'd be terrible in the role.

This is a good idea as long the series itself is good. I mean it does has world building and lore that can't be put down in a two hours films.

I loved Dredd and wished we got a sequel to it. If this is going to be more of the same stuff then I'll be happy with that.

I shall sit here and await patiently until it comes out. And then I shall watch it.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I loved the Dress movie. And if they can make a show that captures that, I'll watch it.

Please be good.

Karl Urban's chin was the best Dredd.

Given the serial and short story format of the original novels, a TV series might be just the right way to go for this. I am feeling cautious but excited.

I know that Urban said he'd love to do more movies or be in a show, so there is hope that we will get the one true Dredd back.

My god, I've waited years for this.

I'm not criticizing Karl Urban, I'm pointing out that he's had bad luck with sci-fi cop roles - Dredd didn't get a sequel, Almost Human didn't get renewed, etc. As an actor, I think he's fine.

That's underselling it, he was the best part of the Trek reboot. Guy can act, knows his stuff. It's a shame he's had bad luck with things because Dredd should have been a smash hit and Almost Human was better then you'd expect given the fact Jar Jar Abrams was attached to it.

That sounds like the name of Dredd's camp gay cousin.
It's the sister film to Zorro: The Gay Blade.

He was, IMHO, not very good in Almost Human, but that might not have been down to him.

I am also totally in favor of Karl Urban doing this show. He's very underrated as an actor and made for a perfect Dredd in a great Dredd movie. I'm still sad that film never got a sequel.
