It's always been a subject of much joking about amongst my mates but just out of interest, how much do American teens drink before they are legally old enough?

Pretty much everyone I know has been drinking since at least 13. I'm in the UK to clarify.

Also any good stories that start with "I was out drinking with my friends when...." are welcome.

*Edit* Didn't mean to cut out everyone else. Let me know what the drinking culture is like in your country too.

I see you specify American youths here, but I resent the terms of your opening post and submit my own answers!

Norwegian here, and it's standard culture to start partying at the age of 15. At least here in central Norway. I do believe we're known, along with the northern parts of the country, to drink a lot.

Sorry for that: The conversation me and my mates had revolved around American youth. I'll edit my OP to make it more acomidating.

13? Seriously! Me and friends got interested when we were 15 but didnt start seriously drinking until we were getting close to 17. Pretty much every time we drink it makes for a good story so I have way too many to put on here. One good one though was when my best friend got properly drunk for the first time and could not stop laughing, not even to tell us what she was laughing about. Eventually she got out that she thought the table was wobbling and we could not convince her that it wasn't. We all ended up laughing so much we got stitches.

::Laughs.:: I bucked the trend. I didn't drink until I was in my late 20's/early 30's. And the only drink I can stomach is a Sloe Gin Sour, because it tastes just like Hawaiian Punch with a kick. But some kids I knew sneaked liquor into school in the 7th grade (13/14) when I was in Catholic School.
