dont buy a drum kit. they are impractical and will get you evicted. buy electronic drumkits, they're infinately more portable and quieter

or you could just play at a decent time and/or get drum softeners. They're basically just custom cut mouse pads that make the hits ALOT quieter. I have a Pearl kit myself :).

I'm would have to say drums.
If you choose to buy a drum set, and you're an actual drummer/percussionist, then get a real drum set. If not, then buy an electronic one.

What? Unless I am mistaken and you know him, why are you assuming that he lives in an apartment or duplex or whatever? If you live in a house, go with the drum kit. If you DO live in an apartment, then go with the computer.

Also..."Infinitely"

Buy the drums, get really good at them, join a band, then use your millions to get a custom-made computer.

Simple, really.

you'll need a proper kit if you are in or want to join or form a band, and that can be "infinatly" more fun, and quite a bit louder

There are few better ways to work out frustrations than hammering on a drum kit, and you can have a lot of fun doing it too. Plus, it's good exercise.

of course, you might want to get good first. I mean that's just me, you might want to be a shit drummer. if you do, then follow this advice

But they just don't feel or sound as good as an acoustic one, plus they are more expensive and less personal.

...ok, you might want to read what I had written again. I never said that I knew you were wrong ("Unless I am mistaken..."), I questioned how you knew you were right . If you DID know him or somehow know that he lived in an apartment, you could have just said so. If not, then don't get your panties in a bunch.

I was half giving you the benifit of the doubt on that one and assuming you knew how to play the drums you are planning to buy, if you don't then get lessons aswel

As a drummer, I think you should rephrase your original question.
Instead, you should ask yourself "Which drum set should I get?"

i'd say get a kit HOWEVER it can get you into trouble, i'd say the best way is to mention to neighbours you play the drums and ask them if there's a good and a bad time to play

on another note, from knowing a bunch of drummers in my day, learn something else they are all messed up ppl. i've seen bands get ragged on more by crap the drummer said than anyone else. if you don't believe me look at lars from metallica and what he did to them with the napster thing
