[a href="http://www.tomsguide.com/us/science-research-sustainability-end-of-the-world-collapse,news-15482.html"]So I just read this article[/a], and I'm having a hard time discerning whether this is a set of scare tactics or actually viable.

Is the earth, in the next 100 years, going to go into a cataclysmic state shift, similar in potency to the one that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs? What do you guys think?

It'd help if they actually told us what this collapse is supposed to be

They go as deep as some sort of cataclysmic shift in the Earth's biosphere that could cause another ice age. Or something. Yeah.

A lot of "we're doooooomed" without any real information. Or, more likely, any properly made up information.

An ice age you say?

BRING IT ON, I hate Summer and Spring.

As well, the Earth has underwent many transformations in it's long and varied past.
We will collapse, the earth will be fine.

Not really very legit as a source. But even if earth's ecosystem does collapse, I suspect that it won't be an absolute doomsday scenario like everyone says, we'll just lose a lot of variation and species. Life is pretty damn resilient and can adapt to new conditions quite fast.

Eh, the Earth is going to be fine. It survived a whole lot more then anything we can throw at it. The Permian mass extinction comes to mind, almost all life was obliterated, and the survivers went and became fucking dinosaurs, so you just know the earth is going to be fine.

It's just us that's fucked, no biggy. ;)

Do you hate eating too? because with out long growth periods food would be kind of scarce.

Yeah, it's never the earth that's in danger, it's us.

Doomsday theories are as old as humanity itself. And guess what, we're still here.
Point is : we're not capable of predicting exact weather for next day with 100% accuracy. We can't be sure about events taking place 50-100 years ago. But we're soooooooo sure that some apocalypse is imminent because, hey, we're living in the end times of the tenths of thousands years old cycle. Hooray for science.

Yeah, right.

Silly, I am aware of this. :p
I assumed everyone would have realized the first part of my post to be humor and sarcasm. I really do hate hot weather though.

I got it, I was just wondering was all ;p

But then I am always in an argument with my immune system, it hates being alive and I don't.

Food issues aside I really would probably be one of the last people to complain about it being mind numbingly cold.

35 degrees Fahrenheit is rather comfortable for me.

Yet another doom.

Why is it people can never predict a time of rainbows, dogs and cats hugging and pink rabbits.

It's always a doom.

And they never ... eeeeeever ... get it right. So far, at 32, i've survived 12 "end of the world" predictions I AM INVINCIBLE.

Isn't the Yellowstone Caldera theorized to blow sometime soon? That would do the trick I think.
