Just wondering how many people are squeamish at the sight of blood?

Today I'm giving blood in town (I always give blood around Christmas, dunno why), and I'm a little scared of needles too, so I always look away. But I'm not scared to look at my blood.

It's a little weird, if I'm bleeding, It doesn't bother me all that much, but if I see someone else's blood, I spazz and panic. xD

On a side note, I almost fainted last time and had to lie down (One other guy had a small fit O-o Scared the crap outta me, apparently he hadn't eaten or something) So anyone got any tips on how to prepare myself as well? ^^

Well, eat lots! And don't be scared! And remember that you're being brave and good and everything!

But no, I don't mind blood at all. Although I do get abit squeamish when people start talking about certain diseases and pacemakers.

Blood doesn't bother me, as I see it daily. Yay, diabetes.

As for tips, I don't know, just... don't think about it while it's happenning?

Well after seeing my mother attacked by a dog and being severely injured you think I'd be terrified of the stuff. (7 years ago)

But then you'd be wrong. Never bothers me if I see a some blood. In odd places it strikes me as peculiar but that's just my logic kicking in.

There's not much you can do. Maybe expose yourself to so many violent images your fear just goes away. Just try keeping a grip on yourself at all times.

No, blood doesn't bother me at all. And the only tip I can give you: take your time to get used to it. So that means: don't look away. Might be scary now, but I bet that will go away.

I'm not even slightly bothered by blood, although that may be because it tastes so nice.

Best way to deal with it is to use breathing methods to calm down and close your eyes.

I am not squeamish of blood regardless of the source. I am a vampire med student, so it would be pretty ridiculous to be in this field if I had such a problem..like a pilot who has a fear of heights.

I digress..anyway:

Drink lots of fluids (i.e. water) before going for donation. Water will help keep your blood pressure up preventing people from getting light headed. Don't drink anything caffeinated as that'll make you pee and lose water.

If you're afraid of the needle, pinch yourself elsewhere before the actual needle goes in. Diverting pain away from the potential source will distract your mind. Learned that from House MD.. :D

I am not afraid of blood. Then again I have had blood drawn since I was 2 years old for a kidney disease I have. There was time when I was 6 that I had it drawn every other week. After all this time (20 years) I still cannot watch them put the needle in. Once its in I can watch it but I just can't watch the needle puncture my skin.

Thing is only time I turn away from a program is when a needle is involved and yet I have to watch myself get poked. Now I dont give blood but it's not so much I dont want to it's more of a platelet deficiency I have.

Good man, good man! We could use a lot more blood in the world!... Wait, what?

Anyway, I try do donate blood on a regular basis aswell! I do enjoy the hospital's cookies.. Om nom nom..

But I'm not scared of blood, though there was this one time where the nurse poked 3 times in my right arm, couldn't find the vein and then went on to the left. That made me a little queesy.

Well, they normally offer juice drinks there, like orange juice or blackcurrant.
So as long as it is a normal drinking fluid (not alcohol) it should be fine, but I would recommend juice drinks...

I'm not bothered by it although looking at the gore in the Saw movies, Cannibal Corpse albums covers and Mayhem bootleg albums helped.

Im not squeamish at blood. Watching blood spray from a wound in a game is fun, but in real life I can imagine i'd be pretty disgusted if a Dylan Moran moment from Shaun of the Dead happened.

It's a standard procedure at all of them, as far as I know.
They also offer chocolate biscuits and crisps for the donors :3
I just need to ask for another appointment and hope I don't have any illness for the two weeks leading up to it again...
