Alright another election is coming up and all the good little politicians are scrambling for something to relay behind to push their agendas. We all know the economy and immigration is going to come up without a fault, but do you think we are going to face another attack on violent media a.k.a video games yet again?

Yes. Simply put, yes.

Electoral candidates always love to bash video games because the votes they may lose are small compared to the support they will gain because violent video games aren't supported by any kind of majority.

I'd be very surprised if at least one party didn't come up with some anti-videogame slant. It's an easy fear to prey on.

I'm not exactly sure what is going to happen, I just know that most politicians need to lighten up, enjoy a nice smoke and a beer then go home and play some games that aren't AAA main stream shooters like Call of Duty or some other hyper bloody mash up. Honestly it is a bit shameful how they focus on games like CoD and Mass Effect or rather anything from Bioware for having the audacity to splice a underwear commercial into the game featuring a CGI alien.

Nope. Not this election. It's small potatoes right now. It'll come up again eventually, but it's just not a huge factor right now. Any mention of video games will occur in the larger context of the supposed moral degradation of this country.

No, videogames are a post-election mid-term issue to be brought out when support is flagging, not part of a campaign strategy.

They've been an issue on and off for a while now, but a major issue? Not a chance. With the number of issues plaguing the world from gay rights to the economy there is no way that video games are going to be a hot button issue.

Basically this. Unless the economy somehow makes a complete about-face in the next year, minor "issues" like violent video games are going to be swept under the rug. Moreover, demonizing games is becoming a riskier proposition nowadays as the gamer population becomes ever increasingly diverse (I believe the average age for gamers is around 35 now).

it is a super small issue right now. If it is attacked, nothing will come of it. The economy is the pressing concern right now, and it is likely to stay that way all through the election...and maybe the next election at this rate.

All I can say is I hope so to that. After the rampage that came about during the 2000 era...Still...i do agree that I don't see them attacking it if at all, I also don't want to see any hypocrisy coming about, with 'Moral Corruption' when the majority of congress is corrupt.

Yea...video games definitely ranks up there with foreign policy and the budget...
I never said it would be an important issue, just asked if you thought someone would mention it.

I think in the USA's current economic situation, taking time out to bash video games would be both stupid and counter-productive. Besides, if anyone would vote for a particular candidate because they have an explicit pro or anti-gaming stance, it is my opinion that said person is fucking idiot.

Basically, people have bigger fish to fry. The economy is a far bigger issue than if GTA might cause someone to commit a murder this year.
