I'm sure we've all encountered some form of Elitism at some point in our lives, whether it was in an everyday conversation or on these very forums. My question to you is, What topic gets the best of you? Is it politics? Technology? The Mundane? Anything at all? I speak of things that if you hear someone say speak incorrectly about the subject matter, it irks you to the point that you must speak up and say your piece.

Mine would have to be things involving video games(how typical eh?). Its not that people can't talk about video games in front of me, but when you have those people that think the Japanese are light years ahead and have the Playstation 5 already, I can't help but speak up. (Yeah...this happened to me when the PS2 came out *sigh* people these days)

I'm VERY elitist. It's not even about something specific, when someone says something I don't agree with I can't help but talk down to them.

I am elitist by admission and I believe that, in a way, most people are.

For example, I'm a huge movie junkie. I will probably only keep three movies on my hard-drive, and I already have three. 2001: A Space Odyssey, There Will Be Blood, and F' For Fake, which are my three favourite movies of all time (so far), make up pretty much what passes for my movie collection, because I get the feeling that no other movie that I know of as of yet deserves to share their company in my collection.

Similarly, I have a playlist that I call 'hardcore awesome' (got the idea from a friend of mine who has a playlist of the same name) in which I place only the most unique, dork-awesome music tracks that I have, like stuff by Gogol Bordello, Secret Chiefs 3 (check those out; highly recommended), and Manowar. Even my favourite band, Iron Maiden, didn't make it there because they aren't eccentric/unique enough, which is admittedly elitist on my part.

I absolutely hate the trad vs sport argument (its a climbing thing). Basically its 2 different ways of protecting yourself when you fall, most people accept and live with both, leaving it to your personal choice. Theres always that minority of trad climbers who for some reason think their above everything else and start raving about how their all 'true' climbers and all this sort of crap. Its really annoying, especially since they climb generally easier stuff anyway!

I correct people about everything. I'm a total smart ass.
Stop being a smart ass.
Why? Being a smart ass is fun.
"Because someday someone bigger than you is going to beat the smart ass out of you."

That's what my mother told me 25 years ago and it still ain't happened.

It's not really elitism when 99% of people out there are borderline retarded.

Cycling.

People that don't know a Headset from a Bottom Bracket annoy me intensely when they try and talk technical. Even more so when they drop a lump of rust and galvanic corrosion in my lap and expect me to fix it for nothing. Usually I tell these people exactly how stupid I think they are then I tell them what's wrong with their bike.

I can't tell if that is sarcastic or not... (not sarcasm)

Anyway, I don't think I'm all that elitist, but PC gaming is better than console gaming, and people who disagree are stupid and have never really played a PC game. (That first part was sarcastic. Second part; not so much.)

I like to think that I'm not elitist, but when I look at myself from an objective standpoint, I'm an elitist bastard all the way.

Grammar generally. But in the city i live in, barely anyone can even pronounce a word properly, so much to the fact that a book has been published so vistors can understand half of us entitled "The book of hull speak"
My favourite line from it being 'Me owsiz on fiyer darl narn narn narn - my house is ablaze call the emergancy services'

I always feel an insatiable urge to berate someone if their spelling or grammar is incorrect when typing, though I usually only do so if it's exceptionally bad. This in itself annoys me, but I can't help it.

Also, whenever I see someone dancing in place to the latest rap song that they love, I can't help but feel superior to them as I listen to my mainly rock music. Ironically, I'm also a fan of alternative rap/hip hop, so I tend to feel hypocritical after the superiority dies down.

#31

Amen. Although I, personally believe that they aren't stupid, the problem is that they're misinformed...and they like it like that.

Anyway, People call me an elitist because I believe that people should have to take a test (similar to a citizenship test) before they can vote. Turning 18 and being born in the country doesn't make you competant, nor informed, and I don't want my leaders determined by some uninformed proletariat who's voting for a candidate because his family has been voting with the same party for over 100 years.

People that pirate things, such as games or music, annoy me. What really annoys me is when they justify it and berate me for being a "corporate pawn" and make me out to be the morally incorrect one.

That may just be one of the single greatest ideas relating to the voting system that I've ever heard. I must remember it.

Such a test would not be a bad idea.
