Disclaimer: I wanna make it clear that the following has nothing to do with how the AI is coded. It has to do with the portrayal of the enemies in a recent Battlefield 3 demo which is likely reminiscent of that in the final product.

OK ... so I was watching the new coop footage for Battlefield 3 (find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npnwp_F00Rw) and the part where the RPG attempts to take the lead Humvee by "surprise" made me think: have developers of US Military based video games stopped acknowledging even basic competence/intelligence at the part of the enemies? (Edit: I should explain this part in case someone decides to reply without watching the video. The RPG is pretty close and make a surprise attack at the Humvee but somehow misses by just a few feet.)

In comparison we could take a look at Gears of War. While it is true that the Delta Squad is able to somehow mow down wave after wave of a physically and psychologically stronger enemy, there is always an ever present menacing feeling. The story demonstrates the superior cunning of the enemy and their long term plans which is something that makes the accomplishments of the heroes all the more superb.

On the other hand I've never really played the Modern Warfare series and the new Medal of Honor game so maybe I'm missing an important piece of data. Is the "enemy" in the Modern Warfare games at least intelligent? I understand that they somehow were able to start a global conflict that brings great destruction to the capitals of the axis of "non-evil."

So what do you folks think?

Edit: Disclaimer now boldfaced given the evidence that it was probably not read.
