Transformers: Age of Extinction - Better Than The First Three

Transformers: Age of Extinction is surprisingly good, despite having a whole host of flaws.

It wouldn't surprise me if the reason Bob isn't quite so harsh on this one is because he's used up his yearly amount of bile on The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

So the film succeeded (kinda) even outside the robot dinosaurs? Colour me surprised, though I'll still probably hold off on this one.

Saw this last night at an early showing. Enjoyed it alot more than any of them so far.

Gotta agree with Bob, best of the bunch so far, by a wide margin. And like he said, I agree that this was probably the first time in the series where I actually legitimately CARED about any of the characters. Especially considering Bay's habit of just killing of characters with little warning.

Kinda funny how he says in this review he has no problem with people just going to see big robots and explosions on-screen here, whereas in previous Transformers films he's stated that he thinks people who do that are complete morons. And that's not me going over the top, if I remember rightly in either his T2 or T3 review, or maybe one of his Big Pictures, he said something like: "at least these people are in a cinema and not in a car or voting booth where they could do a lot of damage."

Movie Bob is in the minority here. It's reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are currently the worst in the franchise.

Well that was a let down. I was hoping for a complete beating. I mean come on, its an American blockbuster that talks up the CHINESE GOVERNMENT! because they paid for it. How awful is that.

I'm still not sure wheather or not to watch it but I do got one question about the Dionbots (I read the film summary)-
Where they were on Earth the entire time or they somewhere for Optimus Prime to release them? If so where?

There arn't racially insensitive characters in this one and you're telling me the film has respect for China!

And it does have robot dinosaurs...

*cringe*

Alriiiiiight... i'll give it a go. I skipped 3 after 2 was so damn awful so if this turns out bad I suppose it evens out.

Hmm, I guess my tradition of only watching these movies with the accompanying Rifftrax will be broken this time around.

I was getting the feeling that this one would turn out alright. Glad it did. :)

Hopefully Bay will be able to keep the momentum. Heck, maybe he'll even come around to like the damn toys. ;p

At any rate, I think the least we can ask of a transformer movie, is that it be fun.

Also, looking forward to the next Pacific Rim. :)
Didn't know they were making a new Mad Max movie. Was that the kid from the original grown up a bit?

Agreed, except for the boring part. I almost fell asleep in the movie - didn't help that it was about 3 hours at the end of a very long day for me. If I didn't have to drive my friend back to his place afterward I would have left halfway through.
The beginning had me interested, but during the last hour and a half of explosions I just kept thinking that the 4th of July is right around the corner, and at least I'll be able to grill something and talk to people.

Plot spoiler here, read at your own risk:

It's slightly unclear, but it seems like the Dinobots were ORIGINALLY from Earth, and were actual Dinosaurs that were turned into robots by the Seed (the movie will explain what the Seed is). Somehow, they ended up on Lockdown's ship (don't ask me how that makes sense), and Optimus frees and tames them for the final battle. I don't believe they were on Earth the whole time.

I'll be honest, the movie doesn't really explain the Dinobots very well.

Second worst because Wikipedia says that it is just one percent above Revenge of the Fallen with revenge having 19% (though, given that reviews there supposedly have a 1% error, significant overlap is possible)

OT, I really want to go watch this movie, I do but everything I do I just get angered at stupid parts. yes, i'm glad that Bay's american affection is probably now more directed towards normal civilians instead of the government and that the Chinese are supposedly competent (given that the movie would have been cut or restricted if it didn't show the Chinese as competent, this is not surprising), I just know something will piss me off; either the science, story structure or something else.

On a bit more of a scientific perspective, the trailers showed a metal that is what allows the transformers to exist and morph but from a metallurgy view, this is utter bull. the metal being able to slip past itself and the like would mean a lot of slip planes and material defects but this would cause the metal to be harder to manipulate afterwards. The only way this could work is if the atoms are in unstable energy states constantly and are able to move around like a liquid which would mean that it is more a metal gel then an actual metal or it is able to anneal and harden by itself with which raises a whole new set of questions.

Okay overthinking done, the point is that I will probably go into the theater in a cynical mood and come out pissed.

This doesn't surprise me

It has popcorn flick written all over it... and I shall enjoy it for just that
