[HEADING=1]UK Escapism 2009[/HEADING]
[HEADING=2]The official discussion page[/HEADING]

Finally, Escapism is being organised for the UK. It's an event where escapists from all over the select country all get together, get to know each other in real life, and generally have a great time. There's been an astonishing amount of interest in this, so here are the details;

[HEADING=1]The Details[/HEADING]

Location: It was voted on that the best place to do this would be London. It has the best access for trains and airplanes, and everyone knows where it is. There's also a greater deal of stuff to do!

Date: The main day will be Saturday the 25th July. But as many of you will be coming from afar, some will be staying for the whole weekend. However, anyone is welcome to stay, even if they live more locally.

Age Restrictions: I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is an age restriction to the event, nobody under 14 can attend. I've done an average on the ages so far, and it's 18 and a half. A few are over the average, and a few under, but I can't be responsible for anyone under 14 for a whole weekend.

[HEADING=1]The Issues[/HEADING]

Here is everything still under discussion. Feel free to help out solving them, especially the damn accommodation issue.

Accommodation: Accommodation is the key debate right now. We can't have anything too pricey, most of us are poor students, but we can't sleep on the streets either. I've assigned top men on the case. Top... Men.... There will be limited spaces wherever we find, so the spaces will go to those who've travelled furthest. The people filling these spaces will be decided upon by myself and SmilingKitsune when we have a rough number.

Travel: Travelling, my friends, is down to yourselves. I'm getting involved in it as much as I possibly can, by assigning travel leaders for certain areas. We have travel arrangers for several areas, but we need more. If you don't see your region on the list further below and would like to volunteer, it would be much appreciated.

Activities: Okay, we have so many ideas, such as bowling, lazer tag and many more, but deciding which will be difficult! We're on it though.

Money: When the time draws nearer, I'll give you a number. There's a lot to work out, but if you're staying for the weekend, expect no less than £150. Factor this in when declaring yourself as available to come. If you're coming for the day on the train, £80 should be fine, but I'll get back to you.

[HEADING=1]Making it happen[/HEADING]

The Project Manager: Ago Iterum, your lord and overseer. Responsible for sewing all the patches of our plan together, to make the blanket that will be our amazing weekend. We'll be needing the blanket when the hotels are full, and we have nowhere to go, so that metaphor could come in handy. Is intent on making it bigger than the Australian Escapism :)

Accommodation & Safety: The commander in Chief of making sure everyone returns alive, is SmilingKitsune. I'm not a responsible person whatsoever, so I've left it to this guy to avoid getting me calls from angry mothers, and lawsuits. He will be responsible for finding your hotel, so if we end up on a park bench, you know where to direct your fan mail.

Events & Activities Me and Sky14kemea will be sorting out the events and activities. We'll be sure to make sure everyone's having a good time!

The Midlands: I'm heading the Midlands travel, Ago, or James as I'd prefer. Just PM me if you want in, or leave a message on this thread and I'll reply as soon as possible!

Scotland: Chris B Chikin is guy in charge of bringing people all the way from Scotland. That's right, we're coming from all the corners of the globe. Want to join him? Click here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.108265].

The South West:Revelo, real name Chris, is organising travel parties for those coming from the south west of England. If you're from the area, hit him up! Click here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.109016?p=1#1854191].

Anyone from Woking, please contact Wordsmith or myself for travel

Okay, I also think you should make seperate threads for different travelling groups, midlands ect. ect.

I'd just like to voice my interest in this but if possible once everything all the times and dates etc are set would it be possible for someone to PM me so I can make sure my time is free on that day.
Also I think the minimum age is a good idea because as Ago said it's better to ensure that everyone will able to travel down safely.
Although this doesn't apply to me does anyone know the minimum age for travelling unaccompanied as I believe it will be a useful piece of information for those who are unsure.

I'm putting this in all the Escapism UK threads to make sure there's no confusion. Since it's now on the 25th, I seriously doubt I'll be able to make it, so assume I won't be there.

I recommend not putting an age limit on it, If you feel like you can come down go for it. Anywho, I'll probablycome down provided I'm not busy. I'll be traveling from suffolk, so, yeah.

Ah that's good to know, if I've got the cash together I'll probably travelling down with D.C. from the south staffordshire area. Not entirely sure on our travel arrangements if we do decide to come down but I'll know closer to the time.

Guildford area. I re-edited my 2nd post for that :)

So if anyone in the area is closer to Woking or Guildford give me a shout and we'll meet up?
I live close enough to both.

A hotel? That would certainly solve my problem, coming from Ireland and all.
I'm up for it.

If I come, I would like to be one of the all-weekenders. When there is a relatively accurate price estimate, can you let me know?
