So today I begin my first paid job working at a local pizza place.
And i wanted to ask my fellow Escapists, what was your first job and what was it like? What did you think of it?

My first job was a joke of a paint company for a summer. They paid us $16 an hour plus commission per phone number retrieved to go around a specific location trying to sell their service door to door and handing out pamphlets.

My friend and I practically stole money from them. We would throw out their signs, then drive down the street writing down house numbers, and then hang out at a cafe all day calling our friends and asking if it was cool if we wrote down their numbers on our sheet. All they had to do was refuse service when they called. Which they often didn't. Together we "earned" about $5000 from that company. For honestly about 2 hours of actual work.

Also, I'm fairly sure the boss was banging his secretary.

Is there a waiter's pay in your area? Because if your state doesn't treat your tips as part of your hourly income, NEVER complain when you get bad/no tip. Ever. I have a friend who worked delivery for three years, and if he got less than 15% tip on ANYTHING regardless of how late he was, he bitched. He was paid 11 dollars an hour, 40 hours a week, +50 cents for every mile he had to drive.
Every time he brought up work I wanted to punch his fucking face in.
I'm not sure if there's waiters pay in Canada. But I won't get tips, I'm in the back of the place.

I was a picker/packer at a Bakery, me'h it was alright, works work at the end of the day. Poor hours though, was work 12 in the afternoon till 8 at night however it all depends on how the shift went and if anyone in the baking or cooking department screwed up or a machine broke down (without stuff to pack, we can't pack them) we could be working later than that. Honestly while working there we didn't do one 8 shift, it was often till 11ish. Was also 6 days a weeks so that wasn't fun.

Pay was good but it didn't offer a lot of free time. Though I got laid of with a couple others just before Christmas as now unemployed... Yay -_-.

Working at a Big W when I was 15, it taught me how to cut corners, look busy, creatively slack off and lie whenever possible. My perpetual catchphrase was "It was like this when I got here".

Selling fast food in the local football (real, not rugby-for-pansies) stadium.

yes...considring my situation I am an incredibly lucky person..so much so it scares me somtimes that somthing awful is going to happen :/

I worked at a Taco bell, it wasn't terrible and I think I enjoyed my self.

Sadly I had to return there recently due to no funeral homes really wanting an apprentice right now, hoping that changes soon.

Assistant Stock Control at a small tool & fastenings distribution company. I arranged every single stock line and put together the company's database of over 36,000 products by myself from the ground up in 2 months.

Sometimes I gave the guys down in Goods In a hand with the deliveries too. What made it doable was the managing director being a friend of the family, so if I ever ran into a problem it was easy to talk to him about it and get it sorted.

McDonald's. I actually liked it at the time, though I can't remember why.
I hated it when I was there. Of course, I got to work the grill instead of taking orders or anything, so that might have been it. It was nice not getting bitched at by customers, though, but I was there for a month in high school before I quit.

I plan to never work in fast food again.

Washing dishes at a family owned little pub on £3.60 an hour (minimum wage at the time). The family were three sisters, the fattest greasiest people you ever did see. Put me off eating out for years.

I'm currently still working at my first job. It is just factory work. Cutting metal, putting pieces in primer, etc. The work is okay, my co-workers and supervisors are cool.

Was working on the factory floor of a Perfume and Toiletry's company, spending hour after hour after hour filling bottles from machines or applying labels.

Was worth it through as it meant I was one of the few people that I knew at my Uni that wasn't constantly in debt.

First job (aside from Paperboy) was when I was ~16. I was a shop assistant in the fresh produce section in Tesco. I loved it, great bunch of people, was only 3 hours a night 6-9 and all the money I earned went to going out a couple of nights a week! Apple's never looked so good! Easy times.

I only worked at my first job for 3 days.
I was a waitress in a little café, only 16, working for £3.20 an hour and 8hrs a day.
It was a horrible cramped kitchen with only one door in and out, and in the space of two days I think I had about 3 cups of either coffee or tea spilled on me when I was heading out and someone else was coming in, so stuff got spilled on me.
It was a bad idea for a first job, I really wasnt ready for it.

Working as a junior councilor at a kids' summer camp last year. I loved it, because I got to be outside all day in a very beautiful area, and it was within biking distance of my house. I was paid $10 an hour, which was surprisingly high for such a simple job. I just had to follow some kids around all day and play some games with them. I can't wait for this summer, when I'll go to work again as a regular councilor, which pays $14 an hour for essentially the same work.
