There are certain long-running series that it seems like everyone has at least dallied with. Some are seen as emblematic of their genres; others are nearly genres unto themselves. Many of them will get you a raised eyebrow if you admit to never having played them; it's like casually mentioning that you skipped that whole "long division" segment of elementary math.
For example, I've never played a Pokemon game. I know people young and old who swear by the series; I just can't get into the idea of cutesy creatures facing off in what amounts to an RPG crossed with a cockfight, and as I've said I find anything marketed towards eight-year-olds with a slogan like "Gotta Catch 'em All!" kind of sinister.
Likewise, Final Fantasy. Oh, I glanced at the demo for FF VII when it came out for PC, but that's as far as I got. It seemed aesthetically impressive but fairly tedious in the actual gameplay, and I've seen a fair number of reviews of different entires that convinced me I was likely to find that a recurring impression.
How about you, guys? Any series you've never quite gotten in on? Maybe that you feel you never will?
