"Essential" series you've managed to skip

There are certain long-running series that it seems like everyone has at least dallied with. Some are seen as emblematic of their genres; others are nearly genres unto themselves. Many of them will get you a raised eyebrow if you admit to never having played them; it's like casually mentioning that you skipped that whole "long division" segment of elementary math.

For example, I've never played a Pokemon game. I know people young and old who swear by the series; I just can't get into the idea of cutesy creatures facing off in what amounts to an RPG crossed with a cockfight, and as I've said I find anything marketed towards eight-year-olds with a slogan like "Gotta Catch 'em All!" kind of sinister.

Likewise, Final Fantasy. Oh, I glanced at the demo for FF VII when it came out for PC, but that's as far as I got. It seemed aesthetically impressive but fairly tedious in the actual gameplay, and I've seen a fair number of reviews of different entires that convinced me I was likely to find that a recurring impression.

How about you, guys? Any series you've never quite gotten in on? Maybe that you feel you never will?

Pokemon, Halo, Gears of War, Final Fantasy (Oh okay, I played a little bit of 7 when I was like 4 and I got bored doesn't count), and um.. I think that's it, that is significant to me at least I guess. I don't actually get that many games, at least when they release..

Gears of War.
Played a little of the first one, thought it was boring and not fun, and don't plan on ever playing it again.

Also:
Psychonauts
Everyone I know tells me it is amazing, but it just doesn't seem fun at all to me.

Never touched a Final Fantasy game beyond playing fifteen minutes of one on the Game Boy Color. I just couldn't get into it. Too much cutscene and not enough game. And even in the "game" bit, there just wasn't enough variety for me. But that's just me, though!

Mario, Metroid, Pokemon... basically everything Nintendo, because I've never had any of those consoles.

I haven't touched a final fantasy game ever.

Megaman. Never played a single second of ANY Megaman game. Don't intend to either.

To a lesser extent: Metal Gear Solid. I've seen some gameplay, and played a bit of MGS2, but in general I passed on it. That'll change though cause I'm getting Rising when it's released.

Mass Effect and Oblivion. I have both of the games and I got Mass Effect for Christmas from a good friend of mine, so I'm going to give that a shot soon.

Metal Gear Solid is the only one I am remotely interested in.
Uncharted now as well.

I never played final fantasy, killzone, or resistance, but from what i've tried, i'm not missing out.

I missed pretty much all of COD (I played about 1 hour of "Finest Hour" on PS2 ages back now).
Never played Gears of War.
Only played about 1 hour of the first Halo.

... And I almost missed out on Metal Gear Solid, luckily I own MGS4 ;)

Twisted Metal, Gran Turismo, I never really PLAYED a call of duty game, i mean i played like five versus matches until my friend ranted about his superiority but that took less than an hour. And Metal Gear Solid. I've tried it, and i got past the prologue of 1, but then I couldn't stop laughing at the "Solid Snake" puns that kept on coming up in the dialogue (possibly unintentional) and the controls sucked.

Oh jeez, where do I begin?

Gears of War, Starcraft, Metal Gear Solid (although I did try the first one...on the original Playstation...I couldn't figure out how to get past the first area), Call of Duty, Halo, Mass Effect AND Dragon Age (I see no reason at all why people love these titles, but given that I've never played ME and only a few hours of DA, my opinion isn't worth much there)...yeah, that's about it.

I was never taught long division.

I've only watched like 3 episodes of doctor who.

I've only played a Burnout game once.

Same with twisted metal.

I've spent less than an hour playing KotOR.

Played very little of Gears of War.

Never played:
MSG
Starcraft
Metroid
Dune
Half Life
The Duke
LBP
Uncharted
Megaman
Mario
Zelda - I actually played the Gameboy one but it sucked.

I think the only Nintendo Titles I played are Kirby's Dreamland on GB and Pokemon Red, Blue,Yellow, and Gold

Half-Life, played some of the each game personally, couldn't be bothered to finish either of 'em.

With all the fan-wank you hear about that series you'd expect the games to be the holy-fucking-grail of all video games everywhere for all eternity. However, from my experience, the franchise is so okay it's average [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ptitlemlheqr7b3csw], nothing more.

Also, God of War, I played the first one for a bit, and actually own Chains of Olympus (recieved it as a gift from my brother), both are tediously repetitive beyond belief and the Kratos is the single most unlikable fictional protagonist I have ever come across in any medium, ever.

Seriously, I liked Kira Fucking Yamato more than him, and I despise Kira Yamato, with a passion.
