Quite a fierce debate going on around this new change that is set to even up the insurance rates a bit.

To be honest I think it's about damn time. I'd have been looking at a ridiculously high premium to insure my own car in the coming months just because idiot inbred boy-racers decide to wrap their cars around lampposts for fun. The rest of us young male drivers get lumped in with them paying through the nose when some of them don't even have insurance.

So what does everyone else think? A victory for fair policies or a parliament changing things for the sake of what some consider to be an intrinsic part of insurance policies?

As a Female, I hate it lol.

It's not just Boy-racers making your life difficult, it is Men in general who do think they're amazing on the road, when they're not, they're cocky.
Apart from me and my Mum, my house was full of Males who thought they were awesome at driving and thought us Women were shit.

But hey, apparently we can't park for shit, right?

Good riddance to those female-only insurance companies. Aside from being obviously sexist, they were fucking annoying. Shiela's Wheels, anyone?

I don't think you can size up someone's driving ability based on their gender, to be quite honest. I'm not denying that there are boy racers out there who'll run down a school crossing for the sake of hearing the engine roar, but saying that all male drivers are like that is outright ridiculous.

And assuming that all women can drive perfectly is equally bad.

Men drive more hazardous because they are far more agressive than women, but they also driver better, but not good enough to make up for their agression.

That's just waffle. Yes there is a trend for males to be slightly better with visuospatial awareness, but it is by no means a given. My Mother is far better at manoeuvring a car than me.

I can't imagine that insurance companies are really going to be crying about this for very long. I mean, essentially the ruling says 'you were charging some people less, but now you can charge everyone more!' Oh dear. How utterly tragic for them.

On the other hand, once more the general public gets screwed over.

The main downside is that they'll have to release a new wave of ads sans vagina discount, with another damned jingle.

About time. I was annoyed at how everyone thought women drive better than men, especially after numerous examples of them being just as bad.

my brother and my mother both SUCK at driving so hard :'(

Hopefully an end to the annoying 'Sheila's wheels' ads...

EDIT: Ha, beaten to it. That'll teach me for trying to multitask

Hoo-flamin-ray!

All this talk about all accidents ever being caused by men is horse-shit. Sure there are boy racers (who need a good kick in the nads) but there are more and more GIRL racers these days too.

Saying women are better drivers than men or vice-versa is crap and yet the concept of a company like Shiela's Wheels being allowed to offer women-only insurance is grossly offensve (oh please, the advert alone was a travesty!). Think I'm over-reacting? How far do you think a males-only insurance company would get before it got hit with the sexism-hammer? About two minutes and don't dare call me a liar because you know it's true!

I accept that there are high risk groups and that young men are one of them. No arguments there but the simple matter is that there are just as many bad women drivers as men and just as many good male drivers as women and it's high time the premiums reflected that.

You may think this is a rant from a male driver who, despite a ten-year spotless record, gets clobbered on his insurance because of twats in Saxos who think that 4" exhuasts and 15" subs make their dick bigger and that's because it is so that's how it comes across!

I also think it's bad (but utterly unsurprising) that they are raising women's premiums rather than lowering men's but did we really expect anything less from the money-grabbing bastards?

My mother weighed in with her opinion that women are better drivers but I shot her down when I pointed out I had to tell her how to do a three-point turn when I was only seven years old...mind you my Dad doesn't help the men's cause with his history and a license that's spent more time in Wales than it has his wallet!

OK so you might not agree with what I say but that's my opinion and I'm sticking by it.

And I think we can all agree that the world would be much better off without those bloody Shiela's Wheels adverts!

Wardy
PS And they've allowed that effing "Go Compare" guy to sing in the adverts again. Men and women need to unite...not against high premiums but the fact they spend them on terminally annoying advertising!

I'm afraid that's bollocks!

After my sister passed her test, she drove into the neighbours car, another neighbours house, wrote off a mondeo, drove at 100mph in the rain (at night), changed lanes waay to fast, used her mobile whilst on roundabouts and was generally a menace.

Most of her female friends were the same.

Me, I'm a 31 year old male who's held a full motorcycle and car license for ten years and has never had an accident (apart from the coach that ran me over, but he wasn't looking where he was going). All but two male friends of mine over the years have been safe, courteous and aware.

Now tell me how it's fair that my sister and her friends got cheaper premiums than me?

I'm afraid it's quite simple. Women have been going on for years about equality, you gotta take the rough with the smooth, deal with it. There are shitty female drivers as well as shitty male ones.

On the one hand I think yeah it's not fair that I have to pay more for my insurance because I'm a dude, but then seeing as I can pretty much guarantee the insurance companies are just going to charge women more and not bother adjusting mens insurance down as well I'm not hugely thrilled at this.

Anacdotal evidence against statistical evidence is a no go; the insurance firms base their primiums on statistical evidence (primarily).

Amen. I heard far too many radio phone-ins today where it generally went:
Male Caller: "I am a good driver, but my girlfriend is a bad driver. Therefore most women are bad drivers"
Followed by Female Caller: "I am a good driver, but I know a boy racer. Therefore most men are bad drivers"

Statistics vs. anecdotes, winner = statistics. The insurance companies haven't been charging men extra money for all these years just for fun.
I hope that this doesn't start a slippery slope of them claiming that it's unfair to charge young drivers more, then we'll all be paying as much insurance as 17 year old males!

I repair crashed cars for a living, I see who drives worse...and it's basically 50/50. Women really do seem to have way more slow speed, parking related errors though. But a lot of the time pay for it themselves rather than claim on their insurance (skewing stats as well as making me wonder who else they've driven into!). Companies like dent devils and chips-away (S.M.A.R.T repair, low quality roadside bodgers) probably keep stats. I'd love to see them!

Something I have noticed recently though is that more and more people with German cars are acting like complete tossers on the road!

I like this tbh, maybe insurance companies should give people the same offer (depending on car and possibly age) and then up it every time that individual driver makes a claim

and i hate these sexist women only insurence companies. we cant have men ones because that would be 'sexist' but female only ones are fine?
