With 2013 coming to an end, the UK should be enforcing that porn filter proposed a while back. If your unlucky enough to be caught by it, how has it been working out? Has it been a mild annoyance, practically unnoticeable, or violation of privacy?

Hasn't been extended by my family's ISP yet but even if we opt for the filter, I couldn't care less. It's as easy as hell to get around, just fire up a proxy based in a foreign country such as most TOR exit nodes and you're free to go. A waste of money enacted by middle-aged people who don't understand the Internet in my opinion but whatever.

You do know it's not for people that already have an internet plan right? It's for those looking to join a new broadband provider or signing up for the very first time. Last I check, seeing as I am from the UK, it hasn't happened at all or not yet any ways cause there is no news or info about it from my ISP. If it does get enforced, all you have to do is call BT or whatever and say "could you please take off the filter" and job done.

All this crap is just so the Tories get votes from mothers for the 2015 election because you know, protect the children from porn and shit where all the parents have to do is PUT THE PARENTAL BLOCK THEMSELVES!! aS JoJo pointed out, its just a waste of money enacted by middle-aged people who don't understand the Internet.

Funny thing, I was unaware the UK was going to be enforcing a porn filter in Sweden. I would have thought that such a thing would have stirred up more controversy, being a massive breach of national sovereignty and all.

Or did you mean to write Brits where you wrote Europeans? Don“t generalize me bro.

I think you mean "Brits", not "Europeans." Sorry if I'm being rude, there's just a difference is all.

As always, such radical censorship measures are a British phenomenon.

Please do not confuse the rest of us with those in the British government, who'd love nothing more than to replace Freedom of Expression with Freedom for certain groups to be legally protected from offense.

Much UK, very European. For the love of god if you want this thread to be half decent, change "Europeans" to "Brits." People will just *****, including myself. It's even worse because people from the UK are more removed from the rest of the EU because y'know it's an island? I don't even like being called "European" even though it is technically true

Anyway yeah it went through apparently? I never even noticed. GG Cameron.

This is kind of like asking Canada if they're happy electing Obama now that his second term is coming to an end :p.

Yes it was the brain fart child of that posh etonian bag of dicks. As to why Europeans ... well apparently some Americans have a blind spot when it comes to geography. Unless of course it's somewhere they're invading. *slaps self* Bad Psychobabble!! BAD!!

Seriously, just edit it so people will actually answer the question.

I'd like to hear about it from people it affects, but people won't focus as long as that mistake is there. It'll turn into a discussion about your American citizenship.

Ok ok we get it already! While U.S. citizens (Don't want to say Americans, cuz well, I'm not talking about Brazil or Venezuela) are known for lapses in intellect and suing each other for stupid reasons, so many Europeans I've encountered online are far too easily insulted. These are the ones I've communicated with, not ALL Europeans, not just Swedes or just Germans, just the ones I've chatted with. You know what the OP meant, I know what he meant, everyone in this thread knows what he meant. I'd like to see some answers to the question being asked. From what I've read, people already on existing networks are unaffected as they are grandfathered in. It's only affecting new subscribers.

Probably won't be effective. Usually, whenever they try to do something like shut down sites like the Pirate Bay, Isohunt etc. here, a quick google suffices to find 34075 proxies for such a site.

I don't expect it to be any different for porn sites.

I didn't know what he meant until I clicked the thread, because I don't read the news and thought I might have mussed something. If he'd just written "People of the UK," I would have got it right away.

Uk doesn't consider itself to be "europeans" - but a nation somewhere mid atlantic.
IT has not affected me at all - seeing that I live in Finland and they don't have any influence over us. We own our own tele companies and one that is Scandinavian wide. They have no change of getting here.
If they would found a way to limit our Internet it would have been such a shit storm, attack on national sovereignty, breaking EU agreements and even breaking our local laws.

So please OP change the title - this UK porn Filter doesn't affect anyone outside UK. Even if the companies would do service outside UK, they wouldn't have filter and most likely WONT.

Please OP do not generalize. Specially when we talk about a country that thinks it is in EU when it is beneficial and when it is not they act all separated.

I'm not surprised by the comments about Europeans/UK title. Not at all.

Mind you, as a Canadian, I'm not an American so I'm one to talk.

Anyway, not an issue effecting me and I'm sure its easily avoided rendering the initiative by the government to be a waste of taxpayer money. Not a big surprise. I'm sure someone will point it out to them and it will be repealed after 3 years of being obstinate.

Not arrived for me yet. I've been told to expect an opt-in/opt-out letter from my ISP at some point next year. I'm planning to opt-out. Mostly just because over-zealous filters used to catch me out at school (I remember once getting "this page is restricted" when I tried to view the Wikipedia page for China) so I'm not a fan.

I agree with this. There's already been talk that the various filters will block sexual health sites and things of that nature, it seems a very ham-fisted approach.

I'll be opting out if I need to though. As of yet I havent seen anything about it taking effect.
