According to http://wii.nintendo.com/software_excite.html ( information first found from http://joystiq.com/ ) Excite Truck is only for 1-2 players. For a first-party multiplayer game (I assume all racing games to be multiplayer-based) this is almost inconceivable. Just looking into your opinions here: Do you think this is due to gameplay design, lack of development time, or insufficient capability of hardware?

With Nintendo who knows, but my guess is gameplay. The only people that can really answer that are probably under NDA.

I wouldn't be lack of hardware, excite truck isn't the most graphically intensive game going around, and the gamecube handles four player racers no worries.

I would probably say there is some gameplay reason for it as well. My best bet would be track design. Mariokart:DD (GC) was really designed for 8 people to play, and as such the tracks were far too big and playing with less than a boat load of people became slightly boring.
Limiting multiplayer to 2 makes track design quite a bit easier to balance, although it really is mind boggling why they wouldn't spend the extra time implementing a 4-player mode into a game so obviously needing it.

Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to this game and I'll be buying it at launch? Speaking of launch, how is Wario Ware not able to make it in time for launch? I never assumed Wario Ware games took too long to make.

I don't know why it doesn't have 4 players though. That's weird now that I think about it. I saw that it was 2 players last week and I just thought of Beatle Adventure Racing, Wave Race 64, and Burnout where 2 players is what I'm used to. Looking at the games from last generation though (Wave Race, F-Zero GX, Smuggler's Run), they were typically 4 players. Weird. I'm not losing any sleep over it since I enjoy 2 player racing, but I think that might be because I have just gotten used to it after the initial disappointment of not being able to play 4 players back on the 64. Weird decision.
