Movie Bob once said that female characters tend to be portrayed in their stills or victory poses to convey titillation instead of any insight of their personality. SO to experiment, I will be posting some images, 1 male and 2 females, and ask what the image conveys. After a few posts I will have a new set. Also, any sugestion on any random charecters will be great.

So

Character 1: Sean Connery James Bond

Morigan (Dark Stalkers)

Samus Aran

My Take?
1. Cocky, maybe self assured.
2. Intrigued, Seductive.
3. Tens.

Ah, a pyschological vision based test eh? Ok, first I see....a wave crashing into a pile of rocks, next is....the pet cat I had in my youth, and the last picture is....two bears high-fiving. What does it all mean doc?

Seriously though, I think they all convey self-confidence and domination of the situation they are in: the suave super-spy, the seductive demon queen and the determined warrior.

Eh, why not.

Picture 1: Uhh... he looks kinda cheerful I guess. Not much pose to go on, with just the head and shoulders.

Picture 2: Boobs.

Picture 3: Not much of anything. Caution at a stretch. It's not an expressive pose.

I always found it weird how Bond holds his gun to his cheek like that, like he accidentally glued it to his face and tries to pass it off as some heroic pose.

1) Confidence and a boredom/exasperation. (Just the set of his lips is saying "I've been here all day, can I go now?")

2) Sexuality, consideration and control.

3) Ummm... My first thought was "Looking up?" Not very expressive. I suppose her back says strength, and her face says serene, but I'm kinda asspulling those.

1. I could potentially injure myself by doing this
2. hey! my eyes are up here!
3. mmmm yeah....Vanilla coke IS better than original

also should we take into account if something is "official" or fan art? fan art is to an extent free from the need to be "promotional" and conform to these tropes, thats not to say fan art doesn't run a million miles in the opposite direction it does...a lot of the time...but I'd just take into account where the art came from when usuing it in the discussion of "poses"

1. Confidence, maybe warding off potential attackers
2. Lara croft's chest before the reboot
3. Battle scarred and cautious of further attack

Actually, the difference between one and two for me is simply male, suave spy archetype to female, femme-fatale archetype - they both are saying they are confident, well aware they are both attractive, and fully in control of the situation, at least in their own minds. Hell, they could be looking at each other, really.

The metroid pic is a post-battle hero shot- more openly honest, and at the same time more visibly prepared for a confrontation/situation.

1. "Watch this, guys!"
2. "Is this photoshoot almost over?"
3. "I love being painted!"

I may be weirder than I first thought.

1: He looks like he's rubbing his cheek along that gun like a cat would.
2: Demon girl, half dressed, looking like she wants to eat you. I'm guessing she's a succubus after your soul.
3: Staring off into the distance with blood running down from a cut in her hair. She's concussed.

Why did you choose to only have the torso for the male character?

Sorry. Its one of my favorite Bond pics.

Next set.

1. Tails from the Sonic The Hedgehog games.

2. Cammy from Street Fighter

3. Tifa Lockheart from Final Fantasy 7.

My Take:

1. Happy and Friendly

2. Not sure. Confident if I had to take a guess.

3. Good Natured but confident.

1. I'd say friendly, but somewhat awkward or reserved.
2. Confident but slightly bored, implied by her looking away. Somewhat cocky.
3. Confident, challenging but not in a violent way.

Using exaggerated cartoon animal game characters doesn't really work for this particular exercise, I'm pretty sure the exercise Bob proposed is mostly meant to work with human or at least mostly human characters. If you're going to break out cartoon animals, you should probably use cartoon animals for the female comparison as well. Also, your first post is movie bond, and you should probably stick to actual game characters for this experiment, using human movie actors kind of defeats the point of Bob's original proposition involving girls in video games.

As for your current selection:
1. kind of a generic hello pose, seems to be friendly and greeting the viewer
2. looks like a kind of awkward pose, can't tell if it's supposed to be confidence or constipation, also wondering what kind of padding she's wearing that's preventing a nasty case of camel toe.
3. God damn I forgot how big Tifa's breasts were in her original artwork, I think she got breast reduction surgery for Advent Children. I dunno, the pose is supposed to be confident and a little cocky, dunno how well it works though, not a great pose all things considered.

EDIT: overall, so far this exercise has made me think about how video games and comic books seem to love above average sized breasts, and putting said large breasts in costumes that would be logically very painful to fight in without proper support.

1. Slightly uncomfortable, as if greeting someone he doesn't really want to see.
2. Somewhat puzzled, likely wondering where her pants are.
3. Putting up a cheerful front with an awkward smile and a forced pose.

1st Set

1) "Am I not exciting?"
2)"Am I not exciting?"
For real, they are both looking at "you", inviting "you" into their world. The difference it at Mr Bond does it from a movie poster and Morigan from the bar where Bond orders his weak ass martini.
3) "There something scary over there."

2nd Set

Tails is being all "oh, hi there, wanna be my friend", but what I find interesting is that Tifa & Cammy are in the same pose ("I'm a badass action chick posing so you remember my tits"). Is this intentional? The "one of those things is not like the others" theme I mean.

Edit: After posting, I started to look for parallels within the sets. I noticed that in the 2nd set all characters has an extended, but in set 1, it got interesting. Bond is holding a gun, so we know he is going to do something dangerous. And Samus is in a dangreous place. But Morigan, she IS dangerous. She wanna do something to you.

...Well, my opinions are compromised due to being familiar enough with the characters to know what each should convey, but I'll bite anyways.

First Post:
1) Bad saint! We can't judge physicality nearly as well with just a bust shot! D:< All I can get from this image is drawn from his facial expression which says smug confidence.
2) Unnatural position. Only way I can see that working is if the image was excised from the background. Assuming that, the pose suggests that she's sitting in a very large chair. She's slouching so she obviously isn't playing for appearances, and the look on her face suggests that she's in a position of power and secure in that knowledge.
3) Well, including the blood and cracks in her armor, I think it's safe to say that she just got out of a battle. The way she's holding her gun-arm says that the danger isn't over, but the look on her face shows a certain lack of concern about it. It's not so much that she's smug about it, but that the danger's just a fact of life that she has dealt with to the point that it's not a concern. She's alert, but not extraordinarily so. Given the way she's looking off, I'd venture to guess that she just heard something in the distance which she is about to check out.

Second Post:
1) ...Yikes this one is hard to work with. This really isn't a dynamic pose, it's really almost lazy in what it conveys. At its simplest, I suppose I could say that it conveys that the character is friendly. Or to put it slightly differently...
2) Something about her posture says military to me, but I'm of a mind to write that off as prior knowledge rather than what the image conveys. She doesn't slouch, at least.
3) ...Ok, this was a boring set all around, really. At best I can note that this character oddly has her hands balled into fists which implies her to be a fighter.

You know what? I think I'll add to the fun with some entries of my own.
