So, long story short, I play The Secret World and I think it's an awesome game. Some of you may disagree and for you, perhaps it wasn't a great game, but I really enjoy the quests, game play, and community.
The community is having an event to support a local children's hospital where players can register on the website, possibly raise funds and to play for a 24 hour period on Oct 20th and potentially win prizes. I thought that was a good deal so I signed up and made a pittance post on a few local forums to encourage others to sign up.
To my surprise one such player who would be without computer during the event donated over $100 to the cause.
Being honest, I hadn't planned on even playing for a 24 hour marathon straight. Just do my usual thing and maybe win a prize from the publisher. I can't do that now; someone has pledged a large sum (to me at least) of money for a good cause under my name. They put their trust in me to help gather donations for that cause and to pit my endurance against an MMO.
Even that isn't enough. I've decided to make this entire marathon about helping people and the game's community. During the whole 24-hour play session I will do nothing but help other players (starting with new players, then lower level players, then mid-level players) with any quests or difficulties they are having. The character I use is an end level content character and can offer to them any role that they have need of.
Thus here I am, moving through all my normal internet stomping grounds, posting the story and asking that anyone who feels it's a good cause and has some spare change to donate to please do so. At the end of this post is the link to the donation page as well as the posting I made on it.
One thing I hope you all take away from this post is that sometimes all it takes to turn a person from selfish to selfless is a bit of trust and encouragement.

On Oct. 20th, 2012, I'll attempt an epic 24 hour video game marathon in Funcom's The Secret World, where I will do nothing but help new players and current low-level players with any tasks they may need.
