So today New Zealanders get the new Timeline profile system that facebook is introducing.
To sum up my opinion in a very short sentence....

This is horrible let me turn it off NOW.

But that wouldn't be much of a discussion now would it.

For those of you not in the know, Mark Zuckerberg and co. decided it would be a wonderful idea to make it easy as clicking a button for somebody to stalk your life history (or at least what you've uploaded to facebook).
Just watch -
Sure, you can say "but nobody but your friends can see it, what's the big deal" which if fair enough and very true, but there's the added fact that the new layout is just.. horrible to look at.
There's quite literally nothing about this update that I like.

So what do you guys think? do you like the new layout?
I can't stand it but I'm very interested to see if anybody likes this idea and their reasoning behind liking it

This new update makes me seriously consider rebooting my facebook account. I have way too much crap liked and too many photos.

You don't have to do it yet so I'm not going to give in!

You were given a choice? It got forced onto me >_<
Personally this update has made me seriously consider deleting my account, they were already treading on thin ice with the whole privacy business

Not sure... I'd like to see what things I did on FB back in '07 when I signed up. Just wish it was only for you, not all your friends, though.

I've deactivated my Facebook for a while so hopefully by the time I get it back there isn't more changes for me yet.

I thought when sites updated, they were supposed to get better. Every site that updates always seems to get worse. Youtube and Facebook are REALLY bad about it.

Odd, I've never noticed this. I just wish Facebook would hold it's horses for a little while. It changes every week.
I'm fairly sure it's only started today, not really sure why NZ got it first but yeah...

I'm definitely with you on the constant changes though. it's not that I don't like change as much as it was perfectly fine how it was, at least for me.

Haha yeah, fair point. *tinfoil hat*
Still facebooks privacy policy is incredibly shoddy =/ it's a shame really.

Well, that's quite embarassing, and quite depressing; seeing your own facebook calendar, only to realize 5 of those years were just you sitting in front of a computer playing WoW, with no progress what-so-ever except more body fat and a lousier and greasier haircut.

Facebook really wants you to be as conscious about your drag every-day life as humanly possible, don't they?
Their motto should just be 'jump of a bridge now, you pile o' shit!' or is it just me being overly cynical?

Mark Zuckberg gave an interview a year or so back, about how he decided how people act. He controls what they see and how society lives. It was quite interesting for several reasons.

First off, he's right, although it's rare to see someone lay it out like that.
Secondly, people don't care. They're fine with him dictating privacy or what games they play, what products they buy. It's ok because everyone else is doing it.

It's also a huge boon to anyone looking to rip you off, used to be a lot harder to get a persons personal information. Now it's one Google/Bing search and a Facebook page away, gives you birth dates, anniversaries, children's names, pets names. You know, common password choices. :p Fun game is pretending to be an old friend of there's, old school mate, someone they met once. :p

If you use it, expect to be treated like Zuckberg's private game of Sims. Turns out privacy is an illusion though, so you should care less or get off the internet, don't sign up for a phone, car loan, social security number if you're in the USA, medicare card if you're in Aus, pretty much become a hermit and even then I have my doubts over whether you could actually truly pull it off.

I dunno I don't mind youtubes layout so much, although I'm getting really sick of having to click a little box to switch it to uploads only every time I want to look at a particular channel.
For me the new layout has made profile browsing a massive chore because of a lot of little things that are more evident while using it than in the video, that's why I don't like it.

Well fuck. If facebook pisses you off every time it updates then just leave.
Well.. I'm not sure how this is constructive to the discussion..?
1. I made it quite clear that I'm seriously considering just deleting my account
2. I made this thread to discuss my issues with it and to see other peoples points of views, I wasn't asking for advice on how to deal with it.

But hey you're entitled to your opinion mate I hope you have a great day ^_^

Now, I'm not an expert on that, but I'm fairly sure that in the EU, they are not allowed to keep your data for longer then a certain period of time. If I'm not pulling this one out of my a**, this would make this new feature pretty useless.

Anyway, yeah, the new interface looks hideous. Burn it with fire.

This made me laugh way more than it should have XD
Here's your timeline of the past few years, you spent WAY too much time here.

Yeah the more you look into facebook policies etc the more and more concerning it gets.
Trading privacy for convenience and all that eh?
By the way I don't think I saw that interview, you wouldn't happen to remember where you saw it would you?

Doesn't Facebook's "Wall" already offer this functionality, granted not as easily as "Timeline" appears to.

Privacy-wise, I don't think this will make much of a difference, because it's not like Facebook stalkers are stalking someone because it's easy to do (plus I doubt that Facebook actually has the ability to display your entire lifespan on a single page, unless you're an infant, a cat, or the kind of person who has nothing better to do but make Facebook profiles for cats).

So it doesn't look like "Timeline" will put your privacy in any more danger (it's in enough danger as it is); it just makes Facebook a little more like a Yearbook, only with more youtube links and stupid comments scribbled on it.

Plus it's bound to become obsolete once we discover time-travel..........

You can pretty much already go back to when someone first made their profile and see everything they've ever done, but it was a massive chore, now they've made it literally a 2 click job to get to any period of someones facebook history.
But that aside it's still a really horrible looking layout I think that's what gets me the most.
