Without getting into specifics, I fucked up royally. Hoorah

So, while I try to not freak out over the consequences I will be dealing with over the next five days, why not make a thread...

When you've done your best, with days of planning and thought put into an event and you still fall short of the demanding task asked of you, what do you do to get your mind off your fuck up?

[sub]Don't worry, I will bounce back. The most I need out of this is a reminder that we all fuck up. Do what you want, gonna grab candy and try to read these bad thoughts away.[/sub]

Remembering that it will all blow over helps a bit. Mostly I just try to keep myself distracted until it becomes old news and not as painful.

Just listen to this, and realize he's giving you very good advice, but not with the words he's saying, with the words he's not

For me, work related fuck ups come to mind. Non-work related fuck ups don't really bother me because HEY! I've still got a job. A fuck up at work tends to get to me because I feel like I've let down my coworkers as well. In the event that it happens, I try and keep my head down until something happens that makes it old news, while drinking heavily in the evenings.

I remember that the Black Anality paper exists, and realise that no matter how bad i fuck up i could never accomplish a trainwreck like that.

If it's something that I can't do anything to fix, I play videogames, hear music, and watch movies or videos from Internet.

Although I have heard the recommendation of replay the blunder in your mind as if it was a surrealistic comedy (make people eat their words, dress them in ridicule fashion, give them Pinocchio noses, play the thing in reverse, etc...), I prefer my method better.

Drink until your reflection's eyes are slightly less haunted, however temporarily, by the ever present specter of your mounting failures.

Well I was doing just fine and was frequently regarded as one of the better workers in my department at my last job and still got laid off. Does that count?

Here's a story of one of my own whoopsies.
(I'm an electrician for those who don't know.)

[small]I was drilling a hole for a new power feed for a hot water system in the batten of a Skillion roof.
Drilled the hole and heard a little 'ting'. Looked in the hole and saw a bit of copper behind the wood.
Needing to clean out the hole a bit more I tried drilling it out some more.

One unexpected shower and the loss of most of the photo albums in the garage later I realised my error.[/small]

I always rate 100% honesty and a promise to fix, if possible, and always to learn from a mistake.

Royally screw up as in you need a passport, or royally screw up that you might lose your job? Either/or, I hear Spain is nice. I liked Madrid.

Always remember that you can run from your problems. Not saying that you should, but the option is always there. Hope that brings some degree of comfort.

... never heard of it, but I can guess what it's about from the title.

Just to be sure, is it "So bad, it's horrible" or the more entertaining "So bad, it's hilarious" variety?

Is a social science paper about pornography, specifically anal sex with black women.

Its both horrible, and hilarious.

It makes for a wonderful podcast type thing to listen to in the background, though some parts are likely to make you laugh hard enough to completely incapacitate you.

OT: I go on a run or do some other physical exercise, play video games after that, and remind myself that I've still got a steady paycheck and a roof over my head.

Been there. Just see it as their Fuck up, not yours.
A good severance settlement helps though.

Running to Spain is literally "out of the frying pan in to the oven", some places there are 45+?C (for the F scale users, That's bloody hot)

A resent trend seems to be: Deny you fucked up, continue the same way you did, and call any one who calls you out on it "Fake news".
Seriously though, denial is probably a just as good a tactic as fleeing, and more often use than we like to admit.

I've been doing stupid things an awful lot lately. I think the heat is frying my brain!

I dumped oil all over the floor 2 times last week, once when I was draining dirty oil and forgot to close the valve on the pipe, and once when I was putting clean oil in and forgot to put the drain plug back in. Then I thought the air greaser was broken and it turns out I forgot to take the cap off the tube of grease.

And then today I tried to do a 3-point u-turn as I was rushing to get to a doctors appointment, forgot I wasn't driving a forklift and tried to shift into reverse by turning my signal lights on, and bumped into a concrete barrier cracking my bumper! -_-
To make matters worse, the stupid bloody doctor wasn't even there when I got there!! I was there exactly at my appointment time, which they called and confirmed 2 days ago, and the door was locked and the lights were off!! Stupid buggers!
