Okay I'm sure that just about everyone on this site has played or heard about Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, but I'm not sure if you knew for the PC version you can mod the game. So for all of you PC gamers out there going "I already knew that" do you mod and if so what mods do you use?

It's been a while since I played Fallout3... if I remember correctly I had three mods in use:
One that seperated ammo (and weapons?) from the rest of my inventory, putting those items at the top or bottom of the list
one that did a couple of things in regards to more realism like hunger/thirst, a customisable day/night cycle - that kind of stuff
and one that somewhat broke the gameworld a little bit, at least by rendering The Oasis utterly pointless, but...

These ones.

Also, my Fallout 3 mod list was about three times the size.

Let me think...

RH_Ironsights: If you want to replace 'squinting' with ironsights
Fallout Wanderer's Edition: If you thought the game wasn't immersive or hard enough. Sort of like Hardcore mode in NV. You have to care for your health, nothing is weightless, everything costs more, you give and recieve more damage...
Ling's Coiffure: Add more customization to your character

...All I can think of for the time being...

I play PC games exclusively, but I rarely if ever use mods. I just don't like them all that much. One of the reasons for that is because I feel like they're distorting the game from what it was originally made to be like. I know that's really not the case and there isn't a need to sell it to me, but mods, for the most part, are not for me.

there you go [http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2456]

(minor issue: all that greenery is non-solid, so you get some quirky moments here and there and don't try to use trees for cover, but still it makes for a crazy improvement)

<link=http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7070>RTS: real time settler. Basically you build your own town, recruit villagers, herd brahmin, defend against raiders, ect. You can make blueprints of anything in game, and then add it to your town. You could build a massive skyfort over the DC ruins if you wanted.

Yeah, load order does matter for pretty much all of the larger/more advanced mods.

You're using FoMM/GeMM right?

I can tell you what most of my mods are, if you want the names.

How do you have all pre-order packs?

OT: When I mod I usually take 2-3 really big mods that only modify the game for better and not complete overhauls, except when I already played through the game 4-5 times.

wow thanks for looking it up! (and i understand about the scenery, to make all of it solid would take ridiculous amounts of time. plus getting stuck on that one random bush/rock while in combat is the most annoying thing ever)

no offense but i really hate the steam rolled shit brown color that is fallout 3, and this will help me immensely to be able to get into the game again.

*there goes another 80 hours of my life ticked away..*

I would like to strongly recommend Xepha's Dynamic Weather (link [http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10607]) if you want a mod that adds weather and overhauls the lighting. I was using Fellout but I found some of its lighting changes to be too extreme (the lighting was often very bright during the day and too dark at night, and some lighting cycles looked quite unnatural in their colouring) and when I saw this [http://imgur.com/MgX1D] I was motivated to find a replacement.

The core feature of Xepha's Dynamic Weather is overhauled lighting effects which make the lighting vary more throughout the course of each day and depending on the weather, and also make the lighting look more natural. It also adds more detailed and more varied sky textures.

Additional weather like fog, rain, thunderstorms, and sandstorms are optional extras, there is an optional "green tint remover" which minimizes that faint, sickly green tone the lighting sometimes has, and you can also choose how dark you want the nights. By default, the nights vary from 'bright enough to see reasonably well' to 'too dark to navigate effectively' depending on the weather. Safe to say, they're a fair bit darker than vanilla. I personally like it this way.

I recommend these smaller mods to go with Dynamic Weather:

Megaton Lighting Overhaul
Ordinarily the lights in Megaton are just effects, they don't actually create any light on objects or the ground, that's handled by the ambient lighting. If you use any weather mod that makes nights darker, you should use this as well.

Street Lights (DC Area)
This mod adds some environmental lights to the downtown DC area to make it easier to find your way at night.

Street Lights (Wasteland)
An extension to the above, this adds some environmental lights to locations in the rest of the Wasteland.

Decent Pip-boy Light
Doubles the range of the Pip-boy light so you can use it as a flashlight in dark areas, not just to look at things at arm's length.

I'll PM you tomorrow (23rd) with the details. Off to hit the hay. Load order requirements will almost always be in the description of the mod on FNVNexus, and if not, it'll be in the ReadMe. If they don't say, then it probably doesn't matter - Somewhere after the "major" mods and before the final, short-load ones at the end.

This is my current New Vegas order, but additions happen often - I usually check NV Nexus before I start the game just to see if there is anything I want to add.

Using a load order sorter will help, but some manual tweaking is almost always required.

New Vegas Mod Manager is the way to go.

You get it from Deadmoney DLC.
