From the new trailer it seems like Obsidian is downgrading the graphical engine on Fallout New Vegas. Does anyone know why they are doing this? If the map is going to be huge than this is understandable but I don't see any other reasons why.
Thanks for clearing that up, I was really worried that they were going to release it like that.Johnnyallstar said:What you have seen still isn't the final product. The Gamebryo engine is fantastic with layering textures on everything except people, so what you have seen may not have been a finished product engine yet.
Once we see screens from the post-gold phase, that's when we can make a clear deduction about the improvements, or downgrades made.

No problems. Actually if you get the chance, look at the construction kits released for PC version of Oblivion. It's incredible how quickly and easily it is to throw texture layers on that platform.Judgement101 said:Thanks for clearing that up, I was really worried that they were going to release it like that.Johnnyallstar said:What you have seen still isn't the final product. I agree, the game looks more cartoony now - basically what they seemed to do was futz with the animations and up the color by a ton.Judgement101 said:The textures seemed more flat than fallout 3's. They may just be trying to show that the city wasnt leveled like D.C.
lol.. no.Programmed_For_Damage said:Yeah I think it is a visual downgrade but it's made by Obsidian. KOTORII didn't look as good as KOTOR.
I must admit I haven't played either in ages. Played KOTOR again about a year ago before the disc shat itself. I just remember being more Wowed at the time by the backgrounds in the original as opposed to KOTOR2. The character models might well be better.Altorin said:lol.. no.Programmed_For_Damage said:Yeah I think it is a visual downgrade but it's made by Obsidian. KOTORII didn't look as good as KOTOR.
That's not even a little bit true.
As someone who just recently played through both of them, KOTOR2 has much better textures in general. People still generally look like shit, but KOTOR2 was definitely an upgraded KOTOR in terms of graphics
Obsidian is not "downgrading" the graphical engine of Fallout. They are keeping the exact same engine as Fallout 3. No tweaks or upgrades.Judgement101 said:From the new trailer it seems like Obsidian is downgrading the graphical engine on Fallout New Vegas. Does anyone know why they are doing this? I can't help but agree. Graphics wise, if it's a minor downgrade to work out kinks for gameplay and framerate, then it is of no concern to me. From the newest trailer, NV actually looks just as good as Fallout 3 in my honest opinion.Marter said:Maybe with a slight decrease in the graphics, they can make sure some glitches/memory leaks don't occur. That would be great.
After all, graphics don't make a game, gameplay does.
