I haven't seen anyone talking about this, and wondered why it wasn't being discussed. Back in April BethSoft got a trademark for a Fallout Movie and continuing TV series based on Fallout, so what's up with it? I'm interested!!!

Here is the article:

Here is another article on it:

A movie really wouldn't do the games justice as they would need to cut out a lot. A TV series would be best as you could encompass a lot of the games in short bundles. And, hell, I'd watch it.

Why do we always need EITHER?
Why cant video games just stay their own medium?

I abhor how everything 'popular' these days just HAS to get visualized in film or television.
Write a good book? It's gotta be a movie!
Comic book awesome? Gotta be a movie!
Fantastic real life story that made the news? Make a movie!

the problem is, few if any of those mediums ever make GOOD movies.
Name a GOOD video-game movie?
ANY video game movie.

Exactly.
Leave fall out alone, hollywood.

Have you seen what is out there for our entertainment lately? This would be a huge leap for mankind!

They're probably just protecting the brand, I doubt there's actually concrete plans for a movie or series.

Please tell me this is a joke. You have to be kidding! Ah well, I did get rid of my televison feed, so I geuss it won't affect me much. I only watch maybe two motion pictures a year now. There hasn't been anything good on television since Deep Space Nine ended anyway.
Exactly. Also, Bethesda has Harry E. Sloan, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. on their board. MGM would benefit from this, so would Bethesda Soft - but mostly, those of us dying for some really good entertainment would benefit from this! I haven't seen anything worth watching at the theater or on TV for so long it is sickening. This I will go watch, you know Bethesda will make sure it is Awesome.

I hope they do it, I think it would be great - and timely!

Here is a trailer for "The Road" - note the buildings, roads, cars, etc. in this movie - it is a lot like Fallout 3; (and was the influence for a lot of Fallout 3)- it looks like it will be an Awesome movie.

Fallout was inspired by a lot of things, one of them being The Road Warrior (aka Mad Max 2.) If you want a good post-apocalyptic movie just watch that.

Silent Hill was actually really good. Made by the guy who made Brotherhood of the Wolf. Another great flick. A Fallout movie or miniseries on HBO or something could work if done right. Not enough post apocalyptic cinema imo.
I think a better way to say that is:

"Silent Hill was actually not as horrible as it could have been..."

Because I dont feel Silent Hill was "great" by any means. Oh, it was serviceable, the way that Resident Evil was relatively serviceable, as long as you are watching it on the SCI FI channel. But in order to make Silent Hill a moderate success (i.e. it didnt suck too bad) they had to change HUGE elements of the story to suit a mainstream audience and completely wasted Sean Bean's screen talent because the man is a fantastic actor. Some of the visuals were awesome, but a lot of what made the original game great was lost in a meandering story that seemed to only BORROW from the game the bits that might have seemed decent, and discarded everything else, including major portions of the story.

A Fallout movie or series might turn out OK if done by someone like JJ Abrams, but my fear is that Fallout isnt a big enough namesake property for a studio to assign a capable director or writer. We'll end up with something like Doomsday or Thunderdome which I'll admit were pretty cool movies minus a few issues.

But knowing hollywood, I see a "Fallout" movie starring Nicholas Cage, and that thought alone should terrify you to your core...

ANother good one is A Boy and his Dog... it's hard to find and has a very YOUNG Don Johnson as the lead character, but it pretty much hits Fallout right on the head. I mean, the main character in the movie wanders a post apocalyptic wasteland with his dog companion, avoiding mutants, fighting off bands of raiders, and scavenging old canned goods from burned out bunkers and towns. It even has a strange city of people with an indestructible android guardian.
Oh and it shows T&A.

Fallout would make an interesting serialized TV show if they stayed faithful to the source material (particularly the semi-canon Fallout Bible) and put actual decent sci-fi writers on the task.

Fallout: The Movie? Good in theory, likely epic fail in practice. While it could work the same way the aforementioned TV series could work, the "video game movies automatically suck" principle applies.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of video games that would make excellent TV serials (either live-action or animated). Besides the brutally obvious Pokemon, take any game set in a sandbox world (Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Grand Theft Auto...) and you could make a pretty damn good TV series out of it. Hell, I bet the Escapists could get together and do a proof-of-concept Elder Scrolls: The Animated Series pilot. And if a message board full of would-be writers and animators could do it, it'd be child's play for actual professionals.

That looks freakin awesome!
Except for the whole "Global Warming will Kill Us All!!!" message/theme that it seems to hint at..

I'd like to see that! I'll have to try and find it at Blockbuster, sounds good!
