Okay, so fanfiction is technically illegal according to international copyright law, and also arguably of moral questionability. Now, what are we meant to discuss in this thread?

The fact that she is wrong and that she just likened fan fic writers to stalkers.

I think she is being a twit. Apart from helping to possibly expand her reader base by encouraging a group of loud and hardcore readers that would 'spread the word' so to say, she should be taking it as a complement. Somebody likes her stuff enough to want to delve into the universe she created more on their own and share it with others.

I don't see why fan fiction should be considered illegal. These people aren't making money from these stories and the whole point of copy right protection is to ensure someone doesn't make money from your idea.

Besides, I see fan fiction as a great way to start out as a writer. Fan fiction allows you the chance to write a story and develop your own style in an established setting with established characters so more than half the work is already done. If anything I think fan fiction is a great thing.... even if alot of fan fiction is creepy and/or rubbish.

Fanfiction is to literature what modding is to games. It's crying out for its own Counterstrike.

who is this massive see you next twat? while i think most fanfic is crap i dont see how its in any way immoral (barring the really messed up shit which is immoral for reasons not related to it being fanfic) and its only illegal if you take the most extreme interpretation of *american* copyright law but well americans thinking their law applies everywhere is pretty typical. also it has to be proven to have, among other things, commercial value. frankly most fanfic has all the commercial potential of a bowl of cold piss. i wonder what this crazy *****'s views on fan art, cover versions of songs and similar things are? hope she gets boycotted and flamed into oblivion for being such a stupid stuck up arsehole.
