So... Does anybody here ever play fan-made video games at all? Flash ones? Full ones? Whatever! We all probably had seen or even played with fan-made games so let's discuss what, our favorites, etc. (This also includes mods).

As for myself...
Mods for Morrowind and Minecraft obviously. Minecraft's Portal Gun Mod is a favorite mod of mine.
Rock Band 3 Customs (cause you know, free new songs for RB3 is always awesome).

Oh and Fighting is Magic: Tribute Edition is a rather amazing full fan-made game. I like playing it a lot. There is also "Fallout: Equestria" which is being made into a game and I am excited to play that (being a fan of that HUGE fanfiction novel).

So... What about you guys?

There's a Sonic the Hedehog fangame called Eggman Hates Furries that is just fantastic. There are no mooks in the game, only huge and elaborate bosses. The levels aren't divided, you seamlessly enter new areas as you fly forward. The platforming is challenging and rewarding, with a great wall running mechanic I can't believe the official games haven't tried and the atmosphere can sometimes be genuinely creepy, which might sound off-putting for Sonic but it really works.

It's legitimately one of the best Sonic games, in my opinion. Absolutely fantastic.

There's a fan remake of Streets of Rage and it's the best Streets of Rage game I've played.
Tons of levels, multiple paths, all the characters from the series plus a few new ones, new enemies, all the music got redone and sounds amazing, a level editor in case you got bored from the tons of levels that this game have.

And... It got taken out by Sega, but that's ok, because Sega take the game out after they already released it. So it's out there, go look for it. The latest build is the v5.0, GET THAT ONE. The diference from v4.0 is so huge that is not even funny.

I haven't played as many as I would like, but there are a few I'm keeping my eye on. Certainly Fighting is Magic, once the full release is done (I realize that the official version won't have ponies anymore, but I'd still like to play it, and I imagine it's only a matter of time before they mod it anyways), and the Fallout: Equestria game. I've heard about an MLP-version of Phoenix Wright that has some good press behind it, but I've never tried a game from that franchise before. I guess you could say I'm a bit hesitant.

As for mods, there's just too many to choose from. The Skyrim modding community deserves some collective award at this point. One I'm considering using replaces all of your dialogue so that you sound like a Khajiit. Considering my next playthrough will likely be a Khajiit sneak-thief, this has a certain appeal to me.

Mount and Blade isn't half the fun it is without mods. Right now I like the "Sword of Damocles" and the "Prophecy of Pendor".

Some years ago, I played a ton of Super Mario 63 on Newgrounds.

It's a very solid game in its own right. It's really fun and challenging.

I don't play them often, to be honest. Although, I have played some mods for Skyrim and Mount & Blade, and there are some great Pokemon ROM hacks.

The Misery mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat really pulled me in. It's a damn good mod, and the makers are working on a game of their own. It's of... Hm, tentative interest, but it's nice to see them grow. They've done splendid work, and I do hope their talents translate over to a larger stand alone project. Anything is possible.

"It's like a whoooooole new game!"

I live off Mods, especially for Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas and more recently Democracy 3, FTL and State of Decay (Just got the last one during last weekends Steam Sale.)

And then there are the more adult themed games that I play made by fans and fans of those fans such as Corruption of Champions, Slave Maker, Whore Master, Flexible Survival, Tales of the Drunken Cowboy, etc.

So yeah it's fair to say I play a good deal of them.

Let's see... *dusts off fan games folder* I Want to Be the Fangame, filled with references and deceit; Ascii Portal, short but sweet; Sonic Robo Blast 2.0.6, better than most official 3d Sonic games; Liero Libre, a real-time Worms game (Open Liero X is better, but a little too hectic) and Wolfram, a Wolfenstein 3D remake.

Ski Free or Die Hard! on Newgrounds is another good one, based on the classic time waster Ski Free.

Corruption of Champions, hands down!

Other than that, there's Fighting is Magic: Tribute Edition, Ponyvania: Order of Equestria, Cave Derpy, and Hyper Princess Pitch... Only two of those I added to my Steam game library alongside Touhou 6 through 10...

I've played a whole bunch of MLP fangames, but aside from that, the closest thing to a fangame I've played is "Project Brazil". If anyone here has played any good Metroid fangames, I want to hear from you. I always hear about them being partially made and then shut down.

I recall a flash fan game of portal that was surprisingly good. It was actually my introduction into portal as I didn't know much of valve games and had time to kill in high school.

Super Mario Bros. Crossover:
Fun, and kind of interesting how a simple character swap can change the WHOLE game.

Rainbow Dash Attack:
It's basically Robot Unicorn Attack, but with Rainbow Crash.

SonicRetro.org has a lot of romhacks and fan games of Sonic on their wiki. My favorite, in particular, is S3&K: The Challenges, where you complete certain goals (sometimes with game engine tweeks) in the regular levels with rankings, just like bonus missions in modern Sonic games.

Zelda Classic is one I've heard good things about but haven't got around to trying.

There's also Another Metroid 2 Remake [http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/]. Metroid 2 remade in the GBA games' graphics with lots of new stuff and plenty of polish. You wouldn't know this wasn't official Nintendo material just from watching a video play through of it. Too bad it still isn't 100% complete, but it's slowly getting there after all these years.

Been meaning to try Super Metroid Redesign.
Redesign is excellent, if somewhat hard. If anyone even remotely liked that one, they should definitely try Super Metroid: Eris (lot's of new artwork made just for it and plenty of atmosphere) and Metroid: Super Zero Mission. (Think of SZM as the maps of NES Metroid, Super, and Zero Mission combined with plenty of new elements and running the Super Metroid engine. It's also less difficult with enemies compared to the other two.) All three, along with AM2R, are worth checking out for anyone who has waited since 2004 for a new 2D Metroid.
