Seeing the Halo fan fiction that was just posted up I wondered how many people actually write their own fan fiction and what level you consider yourself to be on. I write many different ones but the only one I have posted up is a Naurto FanFiction.

[link]http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3218877/1/Kiba_and_Hinata[/link]

Many people have said it was good but its my only clean one most of mine aren't really family friendly.

But if you write put a link up or go there and upload it then link us. I'd like to see some Escapists writing on here.

When I was about 8 I wrote a TeenTitans fanfiction. in an effort to make it more like tv, I cut out all of the narrative and left only the dialouge. ONLY dialouge. So I can imagine that It went something like this:
"Hey guys, I am Robin and lets go save the world. I am cyborg, and I say yes to that. We are running out of the building and I am very tired. Huff, huff, puff. Oh no! There is Slade. Haha titans, I am going to kill you YAAAAAH!! Oh no! Beast boy is getting stabbed to death. I am slade and I am stabbing robin to death. Oh no, we have all died!" END You get the point. Sure, I could probably write a real fanfiction, but I'd prefer to come up with my own story, not work off of someone else's work. That's not to say that I wont READ them though.

I read it sometimes, but I don't write it. Not much will, not much time, not much determination to plan out and write something start to finish.

EDIT: Oh, I probably should say more.

I mainly read a tiny amount of MLP fanfiction (it's primarily just Fallout Equestria), but mostly Homestuck. Anything written by sunbreaksdown is worth reading.

There is some damn good fanfiction out there, if you can filter your way past all the shit. The TVtropes Fanfic Recs pages are good for this (yes, there is some barely-disguised self-promotion in there, but often even that isn't bad, and some really damn good stuff gets recommended too). My personal favourite at the moment is Mass Effect: Interregnum. Stunningly good - as in, publishable levels of good, if Bioware felt like it. Here's a short story the author did, set in the same continuity. [http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7205745/1/Omega_Noire]

I'm pretty sure I've managed to get away with writing fanfiction for every creative writing assignment I've ever had. I even wrote a WoW based screenplay for a college film class as my final project, and surprisingly, I was praised by my prof and got an A. I don't think I'm that good, but if grades are any indication then I'm A-worthy.

I write mostly video game fan fiction (depending on what I'm playing at the time) You can find my stuff in my gallery (http://sablegear.deviantart.com) and judge the quality for yourself. People tell me it's pretty good, and I make a point of not straying too far from established canon because things just get silly otherwise (I have a few unfinished pieces that do this just for fun, safe to say they're staying unfinished)

I honestly thought this was going to be a thread asking "omg why is fanfic so terrible?" but I'm glad to see it's not.

The bad works are only well-known BECAUSE they are awful, I know a few very good writers of fan works and their stories are great! The good stuff doesn't get much attention because people either don't take the time to read it (they tend to be longer) or people read it and quietly say to themselves "that was pretty good" rather than trumpetting "OMG THIS WAS TERRIBLE, GUYS COME SEE!" all over their favourite forums.

Thank you sir or madam for your intelligent question.

I would only do fan fics in worlds that are so vast, I can put some of my own marks on the lore. Think Elder Scrolls, which I thought of doing for my miserable, undying love toward the series.

A friend of mine, my girlfriend and myself are inthe brainstorming phase for a Shin Megami Tensai: Devil Survivor fanfic.

We'd have already started writing, if it weren't for school being a pain in the ass for all of us right now.

Yay, someone is reading my work! Yeah, I write a little, just that Halo one so far, but I do plan to write a companion piece when it's finished (the AI Cassandra's mission report, and a letter from Halsey...). I'd say I'm about average as a writer, but beyond great as a Fanfic author ;). Hey, Sturgeon's Law, right? xD

I love me some fan-fiction, but only the hilariously awful stuff, like Half Life: Full Life Consequences, anything by this guy [http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1730364/Hans_von_Hozel], or Cloud Mows the Lawn (cracking up throughout the entire thing. Seriously, go check it out, it is hilarious. Not for the faint of heart, but still hilarious).

Don't write the stuff though. I have thought at trying my hand at some troll-fic, but never got around to it.

I read fanfiction quite often, though mostly only long stuff or parody. There is a really good Gundam SEED one by Maderfole its currently at 2.5 million words plus and it is still amazing.

I've only read some MLP/Dr. Who fan fiction (12 and Travelers). Nothing really special, and writing it myself always seems to backfire.

I read fan-fics but don't write them.

I just don't have the time nor will to sit down and create a story from the established cannon of a series. I also have an idea for a story, but it would be an original created by me and not stemmed from a pre-existing universe.

What background would that be? Did you work at a Games Workshop at some point?

I also do Fanfiction writing. Again, mostly WH40K stuff. Currently, I'm part of a trio who are adapting the Dawn of War series from Dark Crusade through to Retribution into written form. Lots of OCs, and lots of death. Guy called Darkeldar [http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2024278/darkeldar] is doing the main plotline, while my story [http://www.fanfiction.net/u/3253935/Arcsquad12] covers the fallout from the Kaurava disaster. Our third member [http://www.fanfiction.net/u/3305547/thebloodymagpie] is writing up the Kronus Crusade.

I write a FanFiction in form of diary entries of Skyrim. I post it here on the Escapist... Tomorrow I will probably continue with a new entry and I will go on as long as I have someone interested in reading them.
Huh. I was going to do that. Ah well...~

I did one a couple of months ago about Hetalia, which was basically the death of the Roman Empire. Didn't post it anywhere, and only showed it to one person. It was the first one in a while. I really only used them for practice. I think I still have it somewhere...

Harry Potter: My Immortal. Unbeatable for epic awfulness.

BUT WAIT! Something even better! (Oh, do tell us, please!) Really? Well alright, Billy!

Harry Potter: My Immortal read by Scottish guys!
