I don't usually listen to this kind of music, but I remember there being this one album I used to like when I was a freshman in college. I can't remember who it was by or what the album was called, but it was a metal band with a girl opera singer and I think the album cover had a statue of an angel on it (though it might not have been a statue, also I'm pretty sure it was a guy angel). The album probably came out in 2007.

For whatever reason I just remembered liking it and wanted to listen to it again. Any help would be much appreciated.

It might have been Once by Nightwish, though the album cover doesn't particularly look like a male angel.

Kind of hard to tell the gender, really.

Nightwish is the only Symphonic metal band that I am familiar with, so I can't really help much with this one, sorry.

*edit*

looking through their discography on wikipedia I also noticed that End of an Era has an angle (obviously female) and a demon:

I was thinking this too. I'm not a terribly big Symphonic metal band, but I like Nightwish and Epica a bit (I saw Epica in Berlin for my first metal concert).

Could be you're referring to Within Temptation, specifically their Mother Earth album?

It came out in 2000 though so I may be wrong.

And it's my pleasure to have made another Rhapsody fan. The music is just the beginning, the albums are set in an Epic Fantasy world with an actual on-going story.

Luca Turilli is actually the mastermind behind Rhapsody. He's the composer for most of the pieces, the lyricist, and the guitarist.

Also, two people woohoo!

Ah, Symphonic Metal. My favourite Heavy Metal sub genre. For me it all started when I heard the gregorian chant in this Saxon song:

Anyway, shortly after that Therion quickly became my favourite band of all time. And while they are Symphonic metal they always change their style and I can't just link one song and say "This is Therion" So here are some good ones. It's not for everyone though they are very heavily classical influenced.

Edit: Rhapsody is also pretty good, but I can't stand the new singer from the Luca version.

I really wished they used Olaf Heyer like in his solo-trilogy. Alessandro is a good singer but it feels odd to have a singer that isn't as strong as Fabio or Olaf with Luca's writing. He just isn't as strong enough. I still like him though, he's different. This is just a fanboy ranting because of change :p.

The styles did sound familiar. Thanks for that! I usually don't pay attention to who's in a band, I just listen to the music ^^;

I disagree. While Blind Guardian is a Power Metal Band, their album Edge of Time has some major symphonic influences.

That's why I said "not really" They have some symphonic influences, but they aren't strictly a symphonic metal band.

Then again, Blind Guardian does whatever the hell they want, cause they're Blind Guardian :D

And that is reason enough to like them. Well, that and having the greatest fake rock concert in a third rate RPG you'll ever see.

...Or the only one you'll ever see.

You should seriously check out Delain, they should really get you into symphonic metal. Have all their albums and I'd probably wipe all of you out if it gave me a shot at Charlotte Wessels (lead singer and song writer).
