Hello anyone
I'm making this post for those fans of one of the latest "PC-loving" companies. The words is for Ubisoft's techno geek squad Crytek and their latest installment Far Cry 3.As i was fan of the series i subconsciously went on and tried the latest installment,so far to say i was extremely disappointed. As far as categorizing Far Cry 2 as a failed experiment on immersion I hoped number 3 would imitate Far Cry's first and best installment, instead i received only a Minecraft and a B-rated movie on a console package.

My disappointment comes from the next spoiler free elements:
1)Dude skills why?(just make a prolonged tutorial)
2)Mission restricted areas while bragging for open world
3)Godlike mode
4)Uninteresting and already common storyline
5)Extremely stupid A.I.

As far as the negatives the list is endless so let us focus on what positives and great things a franchise could bring
1)World is immersive and beautiful
2)World graphics are as expected

Is this what Crytek ended up to be a Ubisoft lap dog?

You can see a certain dry copy-pasted-ness lurking under the surface of Far Cry 3 that has come straight from Far Cry 2, but I think FC3 has still made several giant leaps in the right direction.

Pros IMO:
*Robust cover system that smoothly does away with having a cover button entirely.
-Also a flexible and flowing climb mechanic.
*Plenty of game play mechanics interacting to create fun unscripted moments.
*More flavour events to add to the sense of a living breathing world.
*Weapons with strong presence that convey their weight, loudness and force well.
*Interesting Geography of all the valleys mountains jungles caves rivers and indeed cenotes you could ask for.
*Kia ora cuz! (Seriously if this game is not #1 in NZ just because of that I'll never understand why.)

Cons IMO:
*Assets reused without sufficient disguise.
-Got this right with radio towers but got it wrong with shopkeepers (That same little old lady...)
*Perfectly functioning vehicles inexplicably left lying around everywhere
-Missed opportunity to expand the repair tool's usefulness.
*Crafting boils down to a grind if you're not willing to deliberately pace it.
*Money much less useful once all the weapons are obtained and upgraded.

Things to consider be they good or bad:
*Player freedom in an open world means you can be as prepared for an engagement as you like.
-Makes the game really easy IF you don't rambo everything.
*Streamlined matchmaking puts blinders on players, easy to use but some games never launch.
*Farcryoutpost.com still down at time of writing (referenced in game as source of a goodie presently denied us.)
*Uplay is a requirement.

Overall I like this game a lot and feel I got my money's worth out of it. It's a game I'll actually finish whereas Far Cry 2 I did not.

Far Cry 3 was fantastic, thought the AI was clever, the story was good, never once hit a restricted area (finished it completely btw).

Ending was dumb, thats my only negative.

I really love Far Cry 3, its a fantastic game and Vaas is such an entertaining character, the only thing that annoyed me was that Vaas didn't really show up much at, most of the time you are just fighting an endless army of clones with red shirts and AK-47s, the occasional one having a sniper rifle or a set of armor and a light machine gun. I really loved the crafting system and hunting animals but to be honest the crafting tree really isn't big enough, I was able to complete it very quickly.

It was definitely a lot better than Far Cry 3 because there are a lot more interesting things to do between missions and while travelling across the landscape. Instead of just driving from A to B and sighing when yet another truck full of angry Africans comes around the corner and shoots at me with a mounted machine gun like I did in Far Cry 2 I actually spent most of my travelling on foot, hunting animals, gathering plants and collectibles and stealth killing enemies with the bow, which I insist is the best weapon in the game.

Aside of the indeed well-made world(which includes geography and animals) i have been tapping or holding keys all the way to get away from getting away from animals, gather plants, getting in cars, walking on ledges and pulling the player's finger to get from dead to a living fury god (which all should be considered scripted) there isnt any essence left in the game which claimed to be a FPS.
I had spent 30 minutes picking up animal's leftovers to power up my inventory and holster capabilities and after that animals became a nuisance making me a animal repeling junkie while searching for people to shoot. This isnt Pokemon.
After finding people and shooting the hell out of them i found out that i didnt have to worry for plants either since wrapping my hands with powerfull bandages or pulling my finger ended up filling my health while i wasnt even trying to hide behind anything anymore.
And since landmarks existed either way i had no use of the towers for weapons or map since most enemies had a non breaking perfectly fine AK47.

So far to say that after i got a bow(best weapon indeed) and a secondary weapon i went on annihilating friends or foes which is strangely possible, searching for a magical way to save Vaas from some crying people that annoyed him.

Comparing to Far Cry 2 yes it was a vast improvement but there wasnt anything good in FC2 to begin with but if taking the care and making a wonderfull map and filling it with teleporting stones and and fetch dope quest and not calling it hunting/gathering simulator i dont know what it should be called.Suffice to say if they take a tropical island and calling it a far cry installment i wont bother with it again

Didn't buy it myself but I played it round at a friends house yesterday.

The AI, it's magic, literally. Attacking an outpost that has a sniper on a roof, no one else near him. I shoot him in the head with a silenced sniper rifle of my own and no one see's it. All goes well as I scout around for a way to take out the alarms when suddenly someone finds the body.

Everyone in the outpost ran to where I had been when I sniped that guard ... how the fuck did they know exactly where the shot came from.

Magic.

As I said, I don't own it myself and only played for a short while so can't go in depth on it but I enjoyed what I did play.

Guns handle well, the bow is quite fun, and that flamethrower ... it sets every sodding thing on fire.

I do agree with something said above though .... who keeps leaving these vehicles lying around? And Hand Gliders?

I didn't see any of the story so can't comment on that. I just did a couple of radio towers and 2 outposts. He wouldn't let me do the story.

And the scenery. It looks amazing.

To be fair, it's pretty easy to project the direction the bullet came from after you've shot someone in the head with a high powered rifle.
Bullet came from the opposite direction of the blood splatter.

Aye, they may guess at the general direction but these guys run to the exact spot I was just at.

They are island pirates, they are not ballistic gods.

I can just say that i love the game.
The AI is allright, Vaas is an awesome enemy, the story is pretty good.
It is basically everything far cry 2 should have been.
You have a huge island and a reason to explore it.
You have means of getting enemies out of the territory, so you don't have to stop for a fight every five seconds, like in the second one.
The driving still works good, although i admit i went mostly by foot, can't miss those animals just waiting to be made into a shiny new purse.
The only thing i don't like is the fact that a lot of your skills are locked until you finish a certain mission, since the first thing i usually do in an open world game is do everything EXCEPT the missions.

Far Cry 3 wasnt developed by Crytek (they work on Crysis 3 for EA). It was made by Ubisoft Montreal.

OT: Im loving it so far. Interesting characters, beautiful enviroments and really good gun play.

All I want to know is if we can finally ride thermals in the hang gliders or not. FFS there's only been a dozen or so Far Cry games already, are they ever going to get it right?

Oh and also if they're ever going to patch it. Unlike FC2...

I really want to get Farcry 3 but I don't want Uplay. Is there any way other than pirating to play it in single player without Uplay?

Probably my favourite non-Elder Scrolls open world game. It's got the best story I've seen in an open world game by far, the mechanics are all brilliantly tight, the world is beautiful and wornderful to explore, and it's the first time ever that an open world game with hunting has given you any reason to bother with it (I'm looking at you Red Dead Redemption, Assassins Creed 3 and Skyrim).

I thought they did that on purpose, implying she was actually the one pulling the strings behind the entire island economy the whole time, Far cry 4?...

Just buy it, then pirate it, and play the pirated version without uplay.

I wanted to fight Vaas straight up (as in; not a stupid quick time event). Yes it would probably be a single bullet to his temple but it would still be a better way than QTE's or making him a bullet sponge.

Also there should be a limit to how many times he can fuck up killing you. I just became sad in the end. Made me lose a lot of respect.

Still love the game though :)

I would also had liked to do even more crafting! Tiger boots and Corcodile vests for everyone!

I'm still waiting for the Steam release. The middle of the day, noon... what?

At least they let us pre-load.

Not sure how long you'll have to wait, what with the game being sold on other sites, in fact I just googled it as I wanted a download on release day and Steam didn't seem interested. I got my download from gamesplanet.com - fairly fast download, and of course Uplay, but this seems unavoidable.

As for the OP...
Personally, I really liked Farcry2, I thought the storyline was interesting, the game dynamics worked for me, I can handle repetitiveness, in fact I prefer that to random shit happening all the time for the sake of it. I haven't really played much FC3 yet, but I'm looking forward to getting into it properly. The main reason I got it though is for the map editor, that's a lot of fun, and I hope that map editing becomes worthwhile, as I really like the idea of AI, tunnels, and land sharks. These days I'm usually just pretty glad to get a FPS that isn't just another modern warfare shooter.
