First off, it's kinda sad that you can't just assume campaign will be playable offfline; You have to be informed of stuff like this.

Second, this;
"We've set the game up to be generous," Hay said. "We've set the game up so...nothing is locked [away]. You can go out and explore, and the game will reward you for your exploration."
Ubisoft must be so proud of allowing the gamers to experience the full game and all of its feature players would expect from a AAA title by being "generous". whoop-de-fucking-doo.

Then, later in the article,
Ubisoft PR followed up to offer a full statement on Far Cry 5's microtransactions, saying they will allow players to speed up their progress. Importantly, however, they are for cosmetic items only. Nothing you can buy will affect gameplay.
Umm, Okay? I don't know if this PR is being serious or it was a simple mistake on what he had said, but that completely contradicts what they said earlier.

Unless these "cosmetic" items boosts your progression?

I think what he's saying is, you can earn cosmetics normally in-game but you can also purchase them too to get them faster.

How can they speed progress, and yet be purely cosmetic? If part of the game is to collect costumes, and buying costumes lets you continue the story, then they're not purely cosmetic. Likewise if they are purely cosmetic, like a blue hat and a red hat, then where does the progress come from?

Also calling it now, since whenever a AAA company has said microtransactions are purely cosmetic(like EA did with Star Wars Battlefront) and they always break the game's flow to annoy players into buying them, I'm sure Far Cry 5 will be broken and filled to the brim with microtransactions.

Basically Heroes of the Storm.

I earned and unlocked alot of stuff in that game just by constantly playing.

Probably that cosmetics come from levelups (similar to Destiny 2 (postgame), Overwatch, etc), and the microtransactions have an XP booster.

Of course, the reverse side of that is that if levelups are cosmetic, levelups aren't advancing your character's abilities anymore.
