So I went and picked up Farcry 2 yesterday. It's amazing.

It's slow to start, it leaves you with barely any help at all, and the open open world is almost too big for it's own good, but all that aside, and it's an epic game.

The weapon system is pretty cool, essentially, you can pick up a rusty POS from an enemy and risk constant jamming/weapon explosions, or you can buy weapons which are in perfect condition from your local arms dealer with your hard earned diamonds.

Another interesting aspect of the single-player is that you have Malaria and need a steady supply of medicine to keep yourself under control.

But enough of the details, this isn't a review. It's more or less me going on about how awesome this game is (MAP EDITOR! SELF SURGERY!).

Anyways, share some Farcry 2 stories? Perhaps tell why you didn't like the game? Maybe you could go on about a game that you think is awesome? I dunno. YOU DECIDE!

I enjoyed it.
A lot of people hated it, and there certainly were some parts that got annoying, but over-all I really thought it was fun! I really like the ending, actually. But I won't ruin it! I will say I hated the multiplayer. Hated. Single player was good, though!

The single player is very fun. I found it to be easier than the first one, but it didn't make it less enjoyable. Overall, I'd say it was definitely worth the $5 I got it for on Steam.

The problem with Far Cry 2, is that it was called Far Cry 2.

Many who have played the original were let down by the fact that FC2 has nothing to do with FC.

I enjoyed the first half of the game. Then after realising that the next half was exactly the same as the first, it went down hill. Add in an ending that is truley a kick in the nuts and you start seeing why people hate FC2.

Positives:

- It's really pretty
- Surgical animations
- Buddies

Negatives:

- The narrative tries to be deep and meaningful, but it appears 3 times (for about 5 minutes each) at the start, middle and end.
- Enemy camps respawn once your back is turned, so all the ammo you've just bought is spent on them instead of your mission
- Fast travel is a pain in the arse
- Enemies know your exact position, even when you're sniping from a considerable distance
- Stealth system isn't very good
- The machete requires 2 hits for a kill, even though:

a) You're stabbing them right in the back
b) Everyone in the world knows that knives > guns in games!

- Malaria is just annoying
- The map is too big and boring
- There's nothing to do other than the main missions (bar find diamonds - whoop)
- The factions are near indistinguishable
- Characters are flat and dull including the Jackal who (like the story) tries to be all interesting and deep but only has a screen time of 10 minutes max.

That's all I can think of right now.

I didn't really like it myself. It was pretty fun at first, but it became so tedious that I just gave up eventually. It had a lot of potential, but it just didn't seem refined enough for me. I also had a problem with the story progression. I didn't feel like I was making a dent in the world at all, especially since the people I was helping were still fucking killing me.

All that, and the fact that South Africans were portrayed pretty badly, make me dislike it.

I was loving it until about half way through when I was transproted to the other part of the map and did the exact same things I was doing before, it just got really old and felt like it should've ended a while ago. I still would recomend it though, due to the fun I had through most of it.

I hated that game. The first time my buddy went down the smoke didn't appear so I spent the next 5 minute searching before I FINALLY found her...Also, the dialog sucked long hard monkey balls, and the malaria was possibly the dumbest idea I've ever see because every time I would go out and start enjoying myself I ran out of malaria pills and had to run home quickly to daddy preacher man to go do an annoying mission to refill them...

I personally love the hell out of this game. Yes, the multiplayer is rather crap, but I did have fun looking at some of the maps people made. A better multiplayer would have made that game an absolute stand out. Best one I found was an almost perfect recreation of Helm's Deep.

But off of the multiplayer and onto the singleplayer.

Woodsey, I'm going to tackle your list of criticisms because it's the largest and best written, and I'm going to quickly say why I felt some of them actually improved the game.

The narrative firstly I had no problem with, so I won't say anything against it. I thought it was a really interesting way to show how you got the mission handed to you like a contract, and enjoyed how you could sometimes alter dialogue during it. As I recall I once accepted a mission immediatly before I even got the full briefing leading to most of the others in the room giving me a quick look and a pause as if asking 'Do you even know what you're doing?'.

The enemy camp respawn thing was a bit annoying, but normally you could either plow through there and fight them off as they try and chase you in jeeps with a machine gun or avoid them entirely with a bit of stealth. Also made it more fun when you wanted to have a bit of combat because you could just find one on your map and blow the hell out of it.

The buses fast travel thing was rather well done. I like how the fast travel system doesn't let you go to immediatly where you wanted, but instead made you plan out a travel route. It's a nice compromise between instant fast travelling in games such as Fallout 3 or Oblivion and none at all.

I don't remember having that much trouble sniping. I'd normally take a position in the bush and they'd have difficulty finding me. I'd normally be able to pick off multiple before my position was compromised.

Stealth... Alright, I'll admit that's was executed rather poorly. Yes, you could sneak up on someone, but you'd have no real way to kill them without the who base knowing, even with silenced weapons.

The machete being underpowered... I liked it actually. Sure it made the slot rather useless, but think about it. Instead of shooting a man with a silenced pistol, instantly killing him, you are attempting to butcher him with a machete quietly. It just doesn't really work that well when you think about it.

I never really had a problem with the malaria thing. You could usually wait out your first fit of it, then take a pill later when needed. It wasn't a huge problem or advantage.

There were a few side missions such as blowing up convoys or assassinating targets, but I'll admit, they could definetly used more variety.

Now, I think the factions being indistinguishable was a good thing. It was a major part of the theme of the game. It shows you that you're not fighting for a side that is good. Both sides are bad, very bad. They are indistinguishable from each other to show that both are evil forces, which demonize the others while saying they are the just ones. It's actually a bit of a deep note when you realize that in situations like this, there is no good, just suffering.

I'll agree that the Jackal could have used more screen time, but I felt I got a connection to several of the other characters through my limited time with them. Hector Voorhees was my favourite in the game by far, since he eminated awesomeness, but there were also several of the buddies who'd come and save you that made me feel very attached to them.

Anyways, that's what I feel about most of those points. There are some flaws in this game certainly, but I felt differently on a few of the points you had, and wanted to raise my opinions on them. Like I said prior, I love the hell out of this game, and it will sit forever on my shelf as an old favourite, that's differences help define it.

It would've been cool, but only if:
1: The world wouldn't revolve around you. Seriously, you're supposed to be in a war-torn African country, but everyone is out there hunting you!!!
2: The stealth mechanics wouldn't be broken.
3: The missions wouldn't be so horribly repetitive.

The actual gunplay though is rather ace, very well executed and I found it very exhilarating on a high difficulty level. But thanks to the insane repetitiveness I could only play it for like half an hour.

It's fun but it's very repetitive and even when your doing missions for a faction they still attack you because it's supposed to be "secret" missions, which is very annoying. Also i got annoyed at it because i love sniping and when you use a sniper on that game it doesn't matter where the fuck you are, you could be over a mile away hiding up a tree and headshot and enemy and then all his mates automatically know where you are!

I played it for quite some time. Never finished it though. I got annoyed by enemy AI constantly knowing where you where, always shooting at you and always having faster cars. Oh, and fast travel was a *****. Those elements broke the game for me, though the open world was very enjoyable.

I liked the game but after spending 15 hours playing it the game glitched out and I couldn't get into the bar on the second map. Made me extremely angry I even played through a second time to see if it was a one time deal (it wasn't). Also the voice acting is bad but it's an intense game so it's alirght. Haven't gotten around to getting a different copy yet though.
