So I got Fallout 3 awhile back and I never really got why people liked it so much. The other day I decided to give it another try and play it some more and for some reason I liked it this time around, mostly because I found a dog name Dogmeat. Dogmeat and I would go around the wasteland hunting for cars to blow up and kill stuff. One day I was walking along and I heard something going on behind me. I turned around to see Dogmeat killed by a giant radscorpion. I then proceded to decimate the radscorpion. I sat looking at my dead friend for awhile, feeling bad about just leaving his body laying there. So I dragged his body over to a car and blew it up in a cerimonious way and it was great. Did you do anything special when your Dogmeat died?

Does he die in every playthrough?

If so, good thing I wasn't planning on playing the game ever, else I would have the story ruined for me.

He doesn't die in every playthrough. Some playthroughs you don't find him either. Its just random, he lives or dies depending on if you protect him.

Nah he's just a regular follower but he's pretty easy to lose, especially if a Deathclaw sneaks up on you without realizing it.

I thankfully haven't lost him yet

I hated taking Dogmeat with me (I was always worried he'd get killed, plus I played a stealth character, and he never figured out how to do stealth). Frankly, Dogmeat always acted like an idiot. I can't say I was ever that attached to him, but as a general rule I left him inside my home, and every now and then he'd dissappear and I'd go find him outside of Vault 101 and bring him back home. That was the extent of our relationship. Point is, my Dogmeat never died.

The last sentence of your post was unintentionally hilarious, I must say. That being said, I never had Dogmeat follow me, because I would feel too bad when the inevitable happened (that being his untimely death). However, if you get Broken Steel there's a perk that allows you to bring Dogmeat back to life, so you'll never have to say goodbye!

I honored Dogmeat by going back in time in case of his untimely death and hit the load button. But I did bring him along, my game was weird I could have both Fawkes and Charon as a follower plus I had Dogmeat so it was a four man party, I must say it worked out really well. I was a stealth character with a death claw gauntlet and the other two would just be shooting the fuck out of everything. Dogmeat tagged along but if it seemed like a mssive battle I left him behind around the corner.

If you have the PC version, there's a console command that'll ensure Dogmeat never dies. I used it and Dogmeat's still with me. Although he's been knocked unconscious a lot.

In Fallout 1, I reloaded a whole lot to keep that little fucker alive. Gotta get a new system so I can play Fallout 3 and meat a whole new Dogmeet (yeah, I just did that).

If he ever dies I merely reload the last save. I don't like losing comrades.

I'm a panzy when it comes to animals so I left him at my house in Megaton so he wouldn't get killed. Although sometimes he would randomly teleport to where I was for no apparent reason.

No. Dogmeat was killed in a battle against two giant Radscorpions 5 minutes after I got him. All I did was say "Damn it." I would have helped, but I was fighting a Super Mutant.

It isn't random, he's always in a specific spot doing a specific thing, and you can choose whether or not to use him as a companion.

The first time I found Dogmeat I killed him with a knife. Then I ate the dogmeat he had on him.
