Mounting evidence suggests that teenagers who have overweight friends tend to develop a weight problem themselves. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/1/hi/health/8172258.stm]

Researchers are still trying to find out why but teenagers tend to cluster according to weight. When they looked at weight changes over time they found that having weight gain occured in children with fat friends.

Time to dump all of your fat friends then...

Does this happen in your experience? If so why do you think this happens? Whats the answer? Some sort of fat kid alcatraz maybe?

Sounds pretty logical. Fat kids tend to stay indoors all the time playing videogames with cola and chips.

You are influenced by those around you?

...

I-I can't even come up with a clever retort for this.

Well..I prefer so be around unattractive people, so I don't feel so crap about myself. Wait..That doesn't explain the fat thing. Does it?
And oddly enough, all my friends are pretty hot. May explain my state of mind.

I may cause the opposite effect.
My skinniness level is unbelievably high, surely it radiates some slimmination on my followers. With fat people it's probably the same, but they don't radiate slimmination.

Amusingly I eat more than some of my well-rounded friends. Oh, super-metabolism, how convenient are thou. (and not so convenient at the same time, I WANT TO GAIN MUSCLES TOO!)

I have no fat friends, and were all gamers. So I don't get all this.
Same here, it also may be due to the fact that I avoid unhealthy fast food, and try and healtheir meals then just chips and pop. Also I walk the dog almost everyday.

Well, I go to the gym 3 times a week, yet my fat friend stays fat. Or is he manipulating me?

It's simple, if you only hang around with fat kids it's okay to be fat yourself, but rolling with the attractive, skinny kids makes you feel bad about yourself if you're not in the same category. So choose your friends carefully kids!

Same here. But you, same as I, can gain muscles, you just need to train more and probably change your diet.

For the first year or so you'll lose weight and get even skinnier (burning what little fat you've got), but after that you'll gain weight (meaning muscles) as long as you train on a regular basis and eat the right stuff (proteins, proteins and after that some proteins).

Go to a good gym, even if it costs some money, let them give you a good plan and a good diet (supplements are the suck btw), train there for half a year to get the feeling and then switch to a cheaper gym.

I don't have fat friends. That's because I hardly know any fat people. It's not that I've got a problem with them, it's just a matter of chance.
But I am overweight, which is funny because I can pull off some cool Altair-style moves.
