I know has been done before, but I'm currently looking into other RTS's outside of console ones and I wanted to know what Factions were good in what games and what strategies would be good for them.So just post your favourite RTS faction and your favourite strategy. Preferably, not just rushing... unless it's Zerg of course ;)

Preferably more obscure RTS games like The Tone Rebellion if you can think of any, if not, go with the classics.

Supreme commander's Cybran faction are awesome. They're all a bunch of crazy Russian cyborgs that can build giant spiders with lasers on top.

My tactic, SPIDERTANKS!!!!!

In all seriousness, if you want an RTS supreme commander is a pretty good way to go (though I thought number 2 was pretty sucky). It's a very very large scale game (in fact, my main gripe with 2 was that it seemed to be scaled down massively) and is just generally pretty cool. Though I'm sure finding a proper review would be better than my shoddy description.

Also, all 3 factions from red alert 3 rule. Russians led by Tim Curry, awesome. Americans led by JK Simmons, awesome. Japanese led by George Takei, double awesome. That's another acceptable choice.

I'll second Red Alert 3 because it's so unashamedly over the top. Red Alert 1 was pretty serious, Red Alert 2 got kinda goofy and then they went "Fuck it, let's get crazy" with Red Alert 3. Psychic Japanese schoolgirls, ninjas, para-drop bears, cleavage everywhere, George Takei telling people that they are made of stupid [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yytbDZrw1jc], anything from JK Simmons [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-yOXtkTGFc]...

fav rts faction GDI from the origenal C&C universe. my strat goes in 2 stages: one build defenses up so you dont get nod rushed.(god i hate those basterds:) two build mammoth tanks, some infintry, and some air power. then use the air force to soften up the defenses and roll in your mammoth tanks useing the infintry to sceen their advance. works 9/10 times and when it fails you still end in good possition to survive a counter attack.

NOD from Tiberian Sun. Just set up a shitload of turrets and blow up anyone trying to attack you. I also like the "Select all of those units and pile them on the enemy" tactic.

CAPTCHA: Onikti Chamberlain. Does this mean something?

Dawn of War series. I prefered small agile armies with high upgrades and fast teching to get them. Meanwhile I would constantly be harassing them so I could tech safely and also potentialy delay them enough for a small force to trounce them. It takes good micro management skills to pull this off well.

Not really a faction, but the Mongols in Age of Empires 2!
I don't remember the name of the mounted archer that you got from the castle, but if you had about 30 of them running around, anything that gets in your way was dominated!

Turtlin' with the UEF. Spiders are squished by Tactical Missiles and Ravager turrets. :3
Be sure you get Forged Alliance instead of just Supreme Commander. I wasn't a fan of the SupCom2 either.

I also liked Red alert 2, mostly because I could make 3 or 5 barracks's as any side, and make an army of 150 machine gunners. You'd shit a brick over the fact that it works.

The UEF from Supreme Commander: Turtle up! Then send in the navy.

The Egyptians from Rome Total war: Top phalanx spearmen with top archers. Let em come.

The Vaygr from Homeworld 2: Build fighters and Corvet wings for the intial attacks, skip frigates and possibly even destroyers and rush straight for a shipyard to have a second base and build Battlecruisers.

From Sacrifice... eh, I prefer to mix-and-match (For each of the 9 tiers you can pick which faction you want the units from): First I'll take 2 Stratos lvls for the quickly recharging lightning spell, the fast units and the fun Brainiac and Vortic to disrupt the enemy. Then 3 lvls Charnel for the Raise Dead spell and the fitting units. Then 2 levels Pyro for the heavy nukes like Rain of Fire, the Bombard artillery and the warmonger machinegunner, and finally 2 levels Stratos for the Fun spells and the awesome Silverback to freeze everything.

I've only played 2 RTSs a good amount, so I'm just gonna talk about them.

Rome: Total War: Carthaginians: Granted this may just be because I haven't unlocked the Selucids yet, but I just love Carthage. Phalanx infantry with stats equivalent to a Pretorian Cohort, good cavalry, and freaking elephants. Perfect for a hold and flank strategy, but is also capable of driving straight through the enemy line.

Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (shut up): Gungans (shut up): What's not to like? They have great mechs, the best navy in the game, a mobile shield generators! Just make some big mechs, put a shield around them, and begin your immortal tank rush!
