I'm sure (if you're old enough) that you've had this happen. one of your favorite bands that you've been following since the dawn of time comes out with a completely terrible album.

Not the kind that you dislike at first, but the kind that you continue to dislike no matter how much you lie to yourself.

For me, this would be the B-Sides and Rarities album by Cake; i still try to ignore the fact that they ever made it. Cake is still one of my favorite bands of all time, coming out with 5 consecutive albums that all earned golden stars in my book, and all that jazz...but christ...what a disappointment.

I'm not sure if it was even the content, but they went 4 whole years without releasing an album, then they release this thing which is nothing but covers of older songs =/

A few years ago some rather malicious anti-Metallica jerks started spreading the rumour that the band released a totally awful album called St. Anger. So glad it wasn't true however.

I can't say that I have any of those - the only band that has an album out that I know I don't like is Within Temptation, and it was the album they made prior to the two that got me into them in the first place. If they'd just released that album, well maybe then I'd be going into denial, but it's hard get the urge to repress memories of an album that predates my interest in the group.

Gee it sure is sad that µ-Ziq's studio burned down along with the only copy of Royal Astronomy ever made. I wonder what that album was like. Knowing him, it wouldn't have been absent of his spastic drum n' bass beats or be boring as watching paint dry. After all, he's a professional.

When did this album release I have heard nothing of it.

Love Black Sabbath but they completely lost the plot when they released Never Say Die. The song Never Say Die is good but the other songs are terrible. I mean, I almost liked every single song on their first 5 albums and then they make this?

HAH! I ruined your delusions!

OT: Pearl Jam never did that pointless Ten re-release. Nope. They never did.

Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace- The Offspring.
It's really very bad. I love the Offspring, Splinter was... passable but Rise and Fall was poppy contrived shit.

Not going to repeat St. Anger as it's already been said several times and will probably be mentioned several more times at least, so...

Judas Priest released an album called Demolition? Never heard of it. Also, Iron Maiden released nothing between 1994 and 2000. Anything you may have heard claiming to be from them during that span is the work of a group of evil alien dopplegangers.

Muse - The Resistance

I liked it when it wasn't embarrassing to be a Muse fan.
Agreed. I like all of their other albums. But The Resistance is just so boring.

I didnt know it was embarassing to be a fan. I must have missed that memo.

Well, I can't really think of any bands who have released albums I am in complete denial of ... but anything Nine Inch Nails did after (and including) With Teeth has been pretty ... notveryinteresting. Except Ghosts, which had some good stuff ... but which mostly consisted of stuff that sounded like something good from his earlier albums (or the Quake soundtrack), but didn't feel like great new works.

KMFDM's latest albums haven't been very good either. I suppose I could say that they never released anything after Tohuvabohu, but that's mainly because they were so bland I can't remember the names of the albums or any songs on them. Tohuvabohu wasn't that great either. Neither was anything they did after ... like ... 2002 or something.
I suppose I could deny that Doris Norton did anything after 1984, since all the early 90's stuff was really horribly bad 90's Rave music.

See, the trouble is that they're now putting out crap like Undisclosed Desires. Paired with their newfound association with the Twilight franchise, it feels like they're catering to teenage girls. I was proud to be a Muse fan when they were, y'know, a ROCK BAND.

OIC. That makes sense. I agree about them used to being a rock band, but not so much anymore.

To add another crappy album to this thread, I'll say that the every Korn album after the first one was pretty bad. Or anything after Staind's first album too keeping with my 1999 nu metal theme.

What Ten re-release? I know nothing of the sort.

OT - I count myself lucky that my two favorite bands/musicians, Sufjan Stevens and Okkervil River, are yet to release anything I really dislike. Impressive considering Sufjan Stevens' 7 albums, 7 christmas EPs and the 86 rare tracks I have. Same for Okkervil River. 6 albums, 9 EPs and a few rare tracks. I like to think that I will never be dissapointed by either but it is bound to happen eventually.

EDIT: I will add that an album was released called Zeitgeist by a band that was pretending to be the Smashing Pumpkins but it wasn't really them and never got released and I hope someone has destroyed that guy who was pretending to be Billy Corgan.

I'm sure glad Disturbed took that giant hiatus after Ten Thousand Fists. I'd hate to believe they'd release anything after that.

Worth pointing out that they're not my favourite, but I do enjoy their music up to Ten Thousand Fists. My actual favourite band, Nine Inch Nails, have yet to disappoint me.
