I had a rather extensive conversation about this with my friends today, with many varied responses.

The children's book I enjoyed most was "Where the Wild Things Are."

And you?

I have two: 'Haroun and the sea of stories' by Salman Rushdie, and 'The little mole who knew it was none of his business' by Werner Holzworth - the epic adventure of a mole trying to find the animal who had an ... *ahem*.... accident on his head while he was asleep (now there's a writer who knows what kids like)

Marty and the Mango, Angry Arthur, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I can't decide which. Neverending Story is getting an honourable mention too.

Depends how young.
For a long while it was Enid Blyton books though, mostly the Famous Five, Secret Seven and 'The x of Adventure' books. (Adventure series on audiobooks)

I still want a Scotty named Buster.
