The description of this forum mentions drink recipes, so uh... let's talk about em!

I'm a bit of a beer snob, my favorite type of which have been IPAs lately. In terms of breweries, there are some REALLY small ones here in Washington, only distributed locally, that make fantastic beer, but the more widely-known ones that I love are Rogue and Deschutes (both from Oregon).

As far as cocktails go, I'm not a big fan of 'em, but I do like bourbon and I recently learned a good way to make it even better - it's called an Old Fashioned. You start with a small amount of simple syrup and two jots of bitters, then a double shot of bourbon (preferably Maker's Mark) and as much ice as you can fit, plus a twist. Good stuff.

edit: Oh jebus christ, did I really post this in the user reviews forum? LOL. I especially like how my post specifically references the forum that I thought I was posting in, and I don't even have the excuse of being under the influence of one of the quality beverages I mentioned. Mods, halp plz :(

Well this is an interesting thread. Nice to talk about something other than tech every once in a while. I'm not a drinker myself, but I love dishes cooked with wine and different things like that. A lot of things cooked with Jack Daniel's No. 7 are pretty good, especially the things featured at TGI Fridays. Bourbon and wines also make great sauces. I've been wanting to experiment with some different drinks in cooking lately, and quite frankly, sauces made out of alcoholic drinks just make a lot of foods taste better.

I'm a big fan of Smirnof vodka and Greygoose, I hate mixing it with anything.. I like how it burns on the way down. Also liquor 43, its a bit hard to find but its worth the hunt.

I love the Japanese beers Sappporo, Kirin and Asahi. As far as spirits, Vanilla Rum and Coke go great together since NZ stopped getting Vanilla Coke in bottles larger than 600ml.

I'm still a bit sick of alchol after schoolies. But anywho... I enjoy Caramel Bailies, burban and cola, vodka mixed with anything really.

I dislike beer (very unaustralian of me) and Tequila (also because of schoolies).

Scotch, for preference. Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and Highland Park are some of my favourites (the last being something of a dark horse among my usual choice of peaty Islay malts.)

Also, Guinness, when in pubs, or Ale, where it's served. (Deuchars, Batemans XXXB, and Greene King IPA are some favourites there).

Vodka and...well anything really. I'll always take a good orange juice screwdriver!

I'm up to tring anything at least once. I heard about cuervo and cola on the stupid television the other day and tried that...not too bad. Mixing it helps (lol)

"A caucasian, Jackie."

This dude abides with White Russians. 1 part Vodka, 1 part Kaluha, 1part Half & Half, poured over ice.

Even better with Vanilla vodka. Mmmmmmm.

I know it sounds cool to order caucasians, and I went through a phase of doing that whenever I could, but I finally decided that I just don't like 'em very much.

Great movie though; I love how he's drinking something in practically every scene. What an alcoholic, lol.

Absinthe has a horrible after taste.

I usually like anything... anything except beer.
I went to Barbados and I really enjoyed Mount Gay Rum.

I had something called a "Brain", once. It's a double-shot of Vodka and Kahlua with a drop of Irish Cream Baileys in the middle, with the Baileys floating in the center of the glass like a brain or something.

Tastes good.

I'm a huge fan of drinks...

Long Island Iced Tea
Irish Carbomb
Jagerbomb
Red-Headed Slut
Three Kings/Three Wise-men/Whatever you want to call it (Shooter consisting of equal parts Jack, Jim, and Johnnie)

When mixing things for myself, I often favor Coke with Black Seal Dark Rum (hard to go wrong with rum and cola).

If doing things straight, I'm a huge fan of Grey Goose (that someone above likes Smirnoff AND Goose makes me question their taste...), or authentic tequila shots, i.e. salt->shot->lime (Cuervo being perfectly acceptable, as it tastes like butterscotch to me, but 1800 Reposado being a dandy alternative when available).

OH, and beer, of course. I love trying new beer, especially at smaller breweries. Dogfish Head gets some pretty wide distribution, and some of their stuff is quite fun. Alternatively, at your average bar, I enjoy Sam Adams (and many of their seasonal varieties), Newcastle, Yuengling, Blue Moon, or any hefeweizen that isn't Widmer Bros. If at a REALLY classy joint, I'll probably go for some sort of Belgian, such as Huyghe's Delirium Tremens (in my head, I always say "Huyghe" like the king in Holy Grail talking about the bride-to-be's tracts of land.)

Last, but not least, wine: if I have my choice, I enjoy things like White Zinfandels and White Grenache (sissy wines), but on doctor's orders, I'm drinking reds instead, such as the Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon (yay for relatively cheap, quality Chilean wine, while it lasts).
