Pan's Labyrinth is the most obvious choice. I also like Frostbiten, despite all my friends thinking it's shit.

Well, being an Australian, and given the mediocre state of the Australian film industry, all my favourite films barr one are foreign. Too many to list! So instead:

My favourite Australian film is The Proposition, the world's most brutal western.

Persepolis was a pretty good foreign film. I want to buy the movie. I also want to read the graphic novel as well.

I wanted to put my favorites on here, but the truth is that you only need to see one movie, ever. Save The Green Planet.

Here's a preview

This is the best movie I have ever seen. I recommend that you buy it, and watch it as many times as you can. It just gets better the more times you watch it. You'll never see anything like this unless someone makes a remake.

Everybody should watch this. And at the risk of moderators and such please send me a message so that I can help you watch it. Note: This film did horribly bad in Korea, it's country of origin, because of it's awful advertising. They advertised this as a romantic comedy. Hah hah it's not. and it is. it's genre free and it is what it is. So, as I said if you can't find a way to watch this, just email me and you'll find a way.

Here's a review for it by someone other than me

possible spoiler's here at that link

Can't say I have seen many foreign films... I suppose Ratatouille is about the only one I have seen.

Taxi (French)
Pan's Labrynth (Spanish)
The Host (Korea)
Spirited Away (Japan)
The Counterfitters (Germany)
Her whole life ahead of her (Italy)
Slumdog Millionaire (India sort of)

I'd mention things like Aliens and 28 days later as they weren't made in Australia, but I don't think that counts.

As long as they maintain the complex eroticism of the French original.

Come on!

EDIT: Although, your good taste in television seems to be offset by a bad taste in films - as I recall Keeping Mum was quite average. Not necessarily bad, but, meh. The English nation have produced far better films! The Third Man?

It's very close for me between Oldboy (Korean) and Battle Royale (Japanese). Other than that I love Wild Zero, The Machine Girl, Akira and there's probably some more that I've forgotten.
