Title is self explanatory. My favorite game icon would have to be Shigiro Miyamoto before he became your average businessman. He brought us classic franchises that are still being milked today and will evetably be milked again 200 years from now(if humanity lives that long).

We're not talking about game characters here, but about the people who make the game in the first place. People like John Carmack, Warren Spector, Tim Schafer or even John Romero, unlikely as it seems.

Yes you spelt his name correctly, and I have to agree. I have wasted more hours on Meir's games than any other developer. Can you find a game of his that you can (fairly) call "bad"?

Well, I think this thread would be better for Game Mascot/Icons so I'm gonna go ahead and say Crash Bandicoot, I loved him! Peter Molyneux gets my vote though just because I love how much of a snake oil salesman...(is that the expression? I think it is) Able to sell water in a bottle while saying it'll cure cancer and actually sell it with no questions asked.

I'd like to reiterate Yu Suzuki (Virtua Fighter, Nascar, Outrun, Shenmue, etc.)
And add Ken Silverman to the list (he was the main createor of the Build engine)

The Build brought us ducking, jumping, terrain deformation/transitions and diagonal/slanted surfaces. It is the engine behind Duke, Dark Forces (modified), Blood, Shadow Warrior, Redneck Rampage and others.
