For me, my favorite instrumental has remained as such ever since I first heard it at least 9 years ago.

That said, three have come close.

I assume synth doesn't count. On the off chance that it does:

More classically, we have these

And then we get this bridging the gap

And while I don't know the name of what he plays, special mention also goes to this guy

Guaraldi and Mason Williams, awesome choices.

There's several I harp on in most musical threads. Here's one I haven't for a while. I started a new campaign of Pinnacle's Deadlands this weekend. And I went back to the cd-rom again for some mood music.

I'm in orchestral mood today, so I'll say:

The same tune repeated with different instruments while increasing its tempo and volume until reaching an energetic climax. I love it.

Be it performed by an orchestra...

...or by Vanessa Mae.

The brief version, that's it.

Composer Robert Israel specializes in writing new scores for re-released silent movies. Not that he doesn't usually pull out all the stops anyway, but I have an extra soft spot for the work he delivered for Harold Lloyd's classic For Heaven's Sake (1926)!

Yup. Just posting the whole movie here. Can't find the soundtrack without it.

Bonus: A few highlights from the first-ever sci-fi epic, Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927). Only the mad and opulent world of Weimar-era German expressionism could have produced such a movie - and only Gottfried Huppertz could have scored it!

This is one of those rare cases where the original sheet music has actually survived. Here, then, are the same tunes as were played by a live orchestra at the premiere - nearly a century ago!

The one Instrumental that I shall name is Howl's Moving Castle - Main Theme. Just please, whatever else you do today, go onto youtube and give it a listen. It's taken me to far off places and gave me inspiration to write again.

I don't listen to a lot of instrumentals. So, the only one I can think of off-hand is from Kill Bill.
