I've been on an MTG kick the past week. That means that I've been reading a lot of card text, a looking at a lot of art. The great thing about Magic cards is that they're art can be amazing, and the text hilarious or menacing.

So, Escapists, I ask you, what are your favorite Magic cards, solely based on art or text?

These would be mine

A Hermit's Cave
I used to love the pieces done by certain artists (actually, still do, though I don't play any more)... like: Terese Nielsen; rk post; Brom; Donato Giancola (his Patron Wizard is creepily photorealistic, as is most of his art, at that); Greg Staples; Rob Alexander; Stephan Martiniere (fuck me, his Ravnica Forest was fucking beautiful)... and a few more here and there.

The early series cards with anything to do with Jaya Ballard, Taskmage, would be hilarious, because of her acerbic wit, invariably pyromania based...

"Anyone for some... toast?!" being the one that comes to mind for Incinerate. There were funnier ones as well, but I can remember 'em... >_>

I've always really liked the look of this card.

[mtg_card=Hanna's Custody]

It's still in my collection somewhere...

I do like that one, pity I play the White or Red deck most of the time in the online version and that one is only in the Green deck.

Yeah I would not be surprised if someone tells me to stop playing Firewave because it might be underpowered but whatever. I have fun with it.

Though the White deck is a little bit ridiculous. The Unruly Mob/Champion of the Parish combo is fuckin' stupid. Not to mention it easily scales into late game with the high level Angel cards. I removed all the Unruly Mob cards though because I didn't think much of them and I like to focus on the Angels.

You might be able to tell I prefer decks that look cool rather than actually being good.

Easily my favorite art is underworld dreams. If I had the money I would pay the artist for the original painting.

My favourite art would have to be the Fiendslayer Paladin
It just looks so fucking badass
And my favourite flavour text would definitely have to blong to Canyon Minotaur
"We'll scale these cliffs, traverse Brittle Bridge, and then fight our way down the volcanic slopes on the other side."
"Isn't the shortest route through the canyon?"
"Yes."
"So shouldn't we?"
"No."

I can't say I've done a ton of MTG in my life, but one card has stuck with me a very long time due to the flavor text.

Pretty funny to me. :p

I was just looking at one of my favorite pieces of art today as it happens. Before I sold my cards last year I saved out one deck and a small handful of cards that I liked because of the art or whatnot and Battle Frenzy was one of them. The lady dicing her way through that horde of monsters just looks like she's so happy to be doing what she's doing.

I love the look of Psychic Barrier. It's simple yet awesome:

And I guess I might as well post this one since I just stumbled on it.

The best flavour text obviously goes to Sizzle for its true-to-life message.

Haha, Sigh.
Now I have to go dig up my magic cards...

I love the quote on Aluren and I love the illustration on Recycle and as a combo they are unstoppable.

Fuck, my friend showed me a really awesome card, too, but I can't remember what it's called.

It was basically this MASSIVE dragon serpent thing... possibly with multiple heads. It went up into the goddamn clouds, it was that big.

And it just looked so cool.
Currently looking for it, will edit post if I do find it (or if someone finds it for me before I do, which is likely as my google-fu is pretty shit).
