I have a weird fetish for lists, and the other day I put together one for my favourite anime series/movies/manga series.

-Ghost in the Shell (the movie, not the show)
-Attack on Titan (Got out of anime for a long while but this brought me back)
-Sword Art Online (I love this show because of how bad it is)
-AKIRA (the movie)
-the Rebuild of Evangelion movie series
-Neon Genesis Evangelion (the manga adaptation of the show)
-Berserk (the manga)

SO ESCAPISTS

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE ANIMU AND MANGA AND ANIME MOVIE THINGAMAJIGS

Best anime:
Sword Art Online(no, I don't care how bad you think it is.)
Haganai
Oriemo
Is This a Zombie?
Highschool DxD.

If you can't tell, I enjoy me some harems and romantic comedies.

Best Manga:
Sekirei
Future Diary
Heaven's Lost Property
Everyday Life With Monster Girls
Maga-Tsuki

Again, mostly harems and comedies. I'm a sucker for 'em.

I also wanna add Highschool of the Dead onto here. Another one which I love simply because of how absurd it is.

Not a big anime fan, but I have a few favorites,

-Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
-Code Geass
-Rurouni Kenshin(Manga and anime)
-Cowboy Bebop
-Hellsing
-Attack on Titan

Does anyone have any suggestions based on these? I've been looking for some more to check out.

Also, since everyone is mentioning Sword Art Online, does it keep up the weird sexualizing of the main characters sister? This girls like 14 and I stopped watching for awhile after I saw the part with the shower scene.

First off, avoid Sword Art Online. Going by what you like, you won't enjoy it. The whole second arc is pretty much an awkward love thing between the protagonist and his cousin(which is what you called his sister.) I enjoy it, but it's not an anime for everyone.

You seem to like military and tactic stuff, going by Attack on Titan, Code Geass, and even Fullmetal. I'd suggest Girls Und Panzer. It is moe, which means we have cute girls doing cute things. Only they drive massive tanks and fight each other with them. Give Vinland Saga a go, it's all about vikings. Berserk might fit your military and fantasy need. You might want to check out gunslinger girl as well. I haven't seen it, but it seems right up your alley.

I've actually really liked Sword Art until now, its just that the naked kid grates me. I don't even mind the thing between the protagonist and his cousin(shes treated as sister, so half credit?), its just that I felt like in that instance it was taken to far. The whole video game world aspect is actually very interesting to me.

And I'll check those out, I've heard a lot about Girls Und Panzer from /k/ and they seem to love it, and you can't go wrong with Vikings.

My favorite anime is actually a toss up between FLCL and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Before, FLCL was my favorite and Madoka was second, but over the years my love for Madoka has only grown, so now I can't decide. Others include Welcome to the NHK, Kino's Journey, and the Monogatari series.

I don't read a lot of manga, but my favorite is Franken Fran. I love reading horror manga, and Franken Fran encompass all that I love. Sick, disgusting visuals, quirky, insane characters, and dark, morbid, satirical humor. My other favorites are Uzumaki and Saitama Chainsaw Shoujo.

As for anime films, my favorite is Perfect Blue.

Well, favourite manga is most definately Berserk. It kinda sucks now, but when it was good, it was OUTRAGIOUSLY good.

Favourite anime is a heck of a lot broader. Azumanga Daioh is certainly near the top though. When it comes to shows I tend to go for comedies more.

And with movies... Most of Hayao Miyazaki's stuff, and Ninja Scroll rank pretty high.

Note that I make a clear distinction between what I consider 'my favourite' and 'the best'. I think both Akira and Ghost in the Shell are two of the best anime movies ever made, but they're not the most pleasurable watches.

Really hard to narrow down anime, since while I watch a fair amount, I don't really follow much. I just default to calling Toradora my favorite, but there's a lot more I have affection for (Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Princess Tutu, the Slayers OVAs, Lucky Star, Nanoha...).

Much easier to narrow down manga, since I follow more of them, and some are just leagues ahead of the pack. Fruits Basket is the absolute winner, with Negima a very close second. Other than them, Full Metal Alchemist, Hayate the Combat Butler, and Ai Yori Aoshi complete the circle of favorites. Naturally, that's without mentioning Spice & Wolf, Hetalia, Azumanga Daioh, K-On!, Haruhi-chan, Buso Renkin, Ouran High School Host Club...

Let's see here.

Manga
One Piece
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Just finished reading all the available chapters an hour ago)
World God Only Knows
Negima
Toriko

Anime
FMA: Brotherhood
Madoka Magica
Higurashi Naku Koro Ni (both seasons)
Gurren Lagan
Clannad
Tora Dora
Spice and Wolf

I've got a number of Manga I want to read still. I have a few Anime I need/want to watch, including Kill La Kill, Attack on Titan, and a few others. I've been reading Manga more lately because there's more series I'm interested in, and my Job allows me to keep up with Manga much better than anime.

Manga:
Vagabond
Hellsing
Deathnote

That would probably be my top 3... but Trigun kind of wants to make both lists as well.

FLCL was my first manga ever, and now with over 150 titles on my list, I still have a special place for it in my heart (and I fucking love The Pillows), but really, it's tied with Legend of the Galactic Heroes iin terms of how much I admire it.

Don't read manga but I watch a fair amount of anime. I'll just pull out the 3x3 I made a while ago.

Kill la Kill, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Durarara!!, Mirai Nikki (The Future Diary)
Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World), Sword Art Online, Death Note

Although now I would replace Anohana with Nagi no Asukura (Nagi Asu: A Lull in the Sea) and Death Note with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Some other honorable mentions include Golden Time, Attack on Titan and Akuma no Riddle. I didn't include Persona 4 The Animation since it is already my favourite game.

Anime:

-Code Geass (All hail Lelouch!)

-Steins;Gate (El Psy Congroo Cristina!)

-Black Lagoon (badass women overload)

-Attack on Titan (Sawano drops over and over)

-Elfen Lied (Lilium & Lucy)

-Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

-Cowboy Bebop ("See you Space Cowboy")

-Highschool DxD (Yeah I said it!)

-Fate/Zero (this needs no explanation why it's good)

-Fate Stay/Night UBW (give me that October remake!)

-Death Note (Kira was right!)

-Hellsing Ultimate

- Mirai Nikki (Gasai Yuno)

These are my favorites.

Manga: (I haven't read many but from which I did I really enjoyed these)

Deadman's Wonderland
Elfen Lied
Gokukoku no Brynhildr

PS: Currently watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and I'm almost at the point where the Director Cut episodes come in (episode 21). Should I watch the normal ones then watch DC to see the differences or should I just jump in DC ones.

Watch the originals first is my recommendation. The other way around would leave you feeling very unsatisfied.

First, I see a lot of the anime listed above are adapted from manga. In such a case, I'd highly recommend just reading the manga. For example, I have been reading Attack on Titan since I randomly stumbled across it first came out and have been loving it. Then, I saw the first episode when it began to air on Toonami and feel asleep half way through.

Any way, not to repeat the suggestions above;

Monster - Think the Fugitive in post-Iron Curtain Europe.

Heads - Man gets shot in the head, then receives experimental brain surgery.

Silver Spoon - Daily life at an agricultural highschool.

Again!! - Introvert gets a chance to relive his 3 years in highschool.

Girls of the Wilds - It's very cliche, school of brawler girls with sole male transfer student, but it's good.

I meant if the differences are rather substantial what's the point in watching the non Director's cut ones at all?

Well when they say they are different, they are WILDLY different. Apparently the original two episodes were more true to what the creator wanted, but they are very uh... strange. They were very controversial and polarizing to the fans, so they made End of Evangelion (which honestly is even more insane, but in a completely different way).

I recommend watching both because they are well worth it and it's really interesting to compare them. You can decide which you prefer as your "canon" ending as well (personally I prefer End of Eva).
