You don't really hear about books on the Escapist (except Twilight hate, which is perfectly reasonable) so what are you faves? For me it's anything by Darren Shan and the Harry Potter books.

Edit: Also, has anyone read Mogworld, Yahtzee's book. I got it off of Amazon. It's really funny, especially if you know a lot about games.

I like both those, although my favorite Fantasy series is (forgive me) the Inheritance Cycle. And I was overjoyed to hear that the finale is coming out in a few months :D

Hmm.
Kingkiller Trilogy. (Name of the Wind, A Wise Mans Fear) If you haven't read them, I command you to buy the first one at least. It can be slow to start for some people, but so worth it.

Then as runners up are (The ones I can remember at least):
Night Angel Trilogy.
A Song of Ice and Fire.
Magicians Guild (And the Se/Prequels thereof)
Terry Pratchett books.

Those're the top 5!

Any Terry Pratchet book ever (Even the children's ones).
Rainbow 6.
Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, all 4 parts.

Other than that I've read plenty of "good" books but none really worthy of re-reading multiple times except those.

The 7 Artemis Fowl books.

Concentrated awesome.
I've only read one of the Artemis Fowl books, but that definitely belongs in my favorites list too. Unfortunately, since being given that one book I have never seen the others on sale anywhere. Also re-reading the one Artemis Fowl book I have annoys me, since it keeps talking about stuff that presumably happened in the earlier books, and then it goes and ends on a cliff-hanger, making me want to find the other books even more.

Lord of the Rings
Song of Ice and Fire Series
Dune
Starship Troopers

Wheel of time is good so far, but I'm only of book five. It may take a while...

Le Comte de Monte-Cristo (the original and the Penguin Classics English version are both great)
the Foundation series
all Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories
the Dark Tower series

I can't think of an other to round out my top 5 but seeing as how there are 50+ pieces of literature in this list, I can say it's justified.

I still can't get over the fact how awesome Malazan Book of the Fallen is. LotR, WoT, A Song of Ice and Fire are great, too, but you absolutely must read the Malazan Book of the Fallen if you can commit to it.

EDIT: Honorable mention, the Kingkiller Chronicles. They are pretty good, too.

Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon. Best book I have ever, or will ever, read. Science Fiction.
They Thirst also by Robert R. McCammon. Reading it presently, second best book I have ever read. Horror.
The Hitchiker Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams, and recently by Eoin Colfer. Great series, but weird Monty Python-ish bizzare humor. Comedy.
Any work by H.P. Lovecraft. Great short horror stories, the Whisper in the Darkness, and the Shadow over Innsmouth are particularly amazing. Horror-Science Fiction/Horror-Fantasy.
The Lord of the Rings Series, an oldie by a goodie.
Dracula, very good, dialogue is a little older, but not incomprehendable.

The first two a on the maturer side of novels, both a riddled with profanity and violence, the second has some sexual reference. There is not enough to make it particularly uncomfortable to read, however.

I swear this is one of the most asked questions on the Escapist. :L

And I keep telling you, go and buy the Histories of Herodotus, read it, persevere with it, have your mind absolutely blown as all of modern Western Culture is explained from the very bare routes from which it has grown from. BUY IT NOW!

(It also has the true story of the 300, which is always a good read).
Do you mean those 300 Spartans?

Yes, I've recently been reading that and enjoying it. I hear it's quite well known but I don't think I've seen it mentioned here.

I also like Catch 22, by Joseph Heller, the Hitchhiker's Guide series, and as clichéd a book to like as it is, War and Peace.

Oh yes, I also like Mountbatten, by Philip Ziegler - it's a biography of me!

Load of others too of course, but memory never serves me well when I jump straight into something.

War and Peace. Seriously a great book.

After that in order:

Winds of War
War and Remembrance
The Caine Mutiny
Flight of the Intruder

Then in no particular order:

Shadow of the Wolf
Rainbow Six
Patriot Games
Without Remorse
The Lieutenants
The Captains
The Majors
The Colonels
The Generals
The Aviators
The Berets
The New Breed
Special Ops
By Order of the President
The Hostage
The Hunters
The Shooters
Black Ops
Moby Dick
The Great Gatsby
Alas, Babylon
The Sun also Rises
Infantry Attacks
Ghost Soldiers
Skin
Lone Survivor
On War
Ghost of Onyx
Patriots
Ordinary Men

Those are just what I can think of off the top of my head. Anyways, are you looking to read any sort of particular stuff?

Here goes:

The Sherlock Holmes stories. My dad had this old, battered copy and when I was old enough (about 4), he would read them to me and I have loved them ever since.

The Conan series by Robert E Howard. I love the series.

H.P Lovecraft short stories.

The master and the margarita

The end of the world in Breslau and Death in Breslau

Darkly dreaming Dexter

The strange case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde

I am an avid reader and apart from gaming it is one of my main pasttimes. The books I have mentioned is only the tip of the iceberg.

You mean all five.

I love David Eddings' Belgariad and Elenium, and their sequel series' (Mallorean and Tamuli respectively) The character building (and everything else but the inevitably cliché plot) is brilliant.
