Mine was Ornstein and Smough. When I got past them I actually said aloud "Fuck Yeah!". The fact that there was two of them made it the perfect mix of terrifying you into thinking you were about to be slaughtered and keeping you on your toes as you looked for that next hit. Plus this playing in the background set the scene perfectly.

So, who was your favourite?

I'd say probably all the DLC bosses. Sanctuary Guardian was awesome.

In the vanilla game I would probably say Moonlight Butterfly because of the otherwordly feel to the fight along with the music.

Pikachu & Snorlax are my favourite, I love the arena and the soundtrack for that fight is just awesome.

Artorias from the DLC was also an awesome fight.

I had a twinge of regret, having to put down the Abysswalker...

Ornstein and Smough was my favorite as well. Gwyn was also really good as I liked the music and I thought it was a nice way to end the game, way better than shooting arrows at the deformed King Allant in Demon's Souls. Gaping Dragon, Capra Demon, and Sif were also really fun "mini" bosses throughout the game.

Surprisingly I only died twice at Ornstein and Smough during my first play through, the Four Kings on NG + was the most challenging boss fight in the game for me. I think it took me four hours and countless attempts with different weapon combos to bring them down.

I really liked Sanctuary Guardian actually, despite my game glitching out during it.
Err...Ornstein and Smough obviously...(I did them first try on my first playthrough. Just saying;D)
Haven't got to him yet, but Artorias looks fun as hell too.
I do like Stray Demon too actually. Don't know why...think it's because I always go for him at really low level. It's a good challenge for sure.

The Gaping Dragon. It's bizarrely easy for a Souls game to say the least.

I *like* the Moonlight Butterfly since it is pretty much the only creature in that game that isn't some vile twisted scumbag that wants to slice you up. I still have no idea why it lives there, why you have to fight it (it's an optional one I know but the item you get is really important)or why it tries to fight you at all. Except basic territorial instincts of course. I don't like it being a boss fight exactly.

It's too peaceful to be randomly killed. Watch as someone comes along and informs me that the lore says MB ate kittens every day for lunch and kidnaps random princesses as a hobby. Because Dark Souls.

I feel the same with Pricilla actually, I know some people will say "oh she's not that nice, she has these zombie minions and harpies around her so that's a bad sign, her lore indicates blah blah blah" the fact is she is the only boss, nay the only person in the entire game that says "look, I know you've had a hard time, here's the exit. Have a good one" is reason enough for me to trust her completely.

Smough & Orstein like everyone else said.

Also, Sif because it's a giant-ass wolf with a greatsword in its mouth.

I nearly died at the Gaping Dragon, I blame the framerate though. Then it puked on me and all my equipment broke.

The Moonlight Butterfly is a creation of Seath apparently...so yeah.

Havel the Rock. Although he's not really a boss fight it certainly feels like it! I'd taken to calling him "Ballsack-Knight" because his club end looks like a ... well it looks like a sack, just sayin, and he teabags your ass into oblivion with even the slightest hit. Fighting him on early levels is no small feat, but I managed to kill him with a level 9 Thief type character after an engagment that lasted nearly twenty minutes. Of course I could have just ran past him or fireballed him a dozen times with my level 22 Pyro and a +10 flame, but that's not really a challenge.

Okay they are getting called that from now on xD

I love Crossbreed Priscilla. That whole area is pretty much my favourite. It's very atmospheric and sinister and I didn't expect it when I went up to the painting.

I don't eat kittens D:

Moonlight Butterfly for the atmosphere, first time I just stared at it for a few minutes and lost the fight xD.

Crossbreed Priscilla for tactics and sheer evilness, nobody decent keeps around those spear... thing... I mean they've got legs growing out of their backs!

Quelaag for sheer difficulty, damn that boss is hard. It's the only boss fight where I was constantly muttering "oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck". And the sound of those spiderlegs skittering... eek!

Sif.

Went toe to toe with the wolf the whole time. Put my shield away, readied my Black Knight Halberd and bowed before just slugging it out. The game almost encouraged that behavior as well. I just found it fun to overhand smash, then jump back then run right back in. Felt good.

Orn and Smough... Bah, separated they are hardly a problem, plus at that point i was a bit over leveled so i just took my time and was fine.

I find it exceedingly hard to pick a favourite, as pretty much each and every one of them blew me away during my first playthrough.

If I was forced to take a pick, I'd probably say... hmmm... yeah, they really all are memorable for quite different reasons.

I think even though it was 'very easy' compared to some of the other, more insta-death ones, the Sif boss battle would have to be my special favourite number one one. I've been fighting deadly shrubbery, little and giant mushroom folks with strange otherworldly chants on their lips, died to invaders and teams of cheating, exploit-exploiting smurfs, when I first noticed that Alien-looking vertical line of light from afar. I didn't know what it was at first, and the first time I crossed that bridge yet another invader was announced to me. So I took up position right under the giant gate, watching the bridge. The glowing red invader soon popped up from out of the woodwork, and he seemed... pretty determined and quite scary. I didn't feel like putting up with him, so I ran through the gate and... nothing happened. I ran around the area and... nothing happened. When I thought the game glitched out on me, or I did something wrong, or maybe I missed something, I closed in on the tombstone and triggered the cutscene - woah. What the... Just the sight of a giant Okami-style faithful dog creature blew me away, and that was even before the great grey wolf snatched up the sword and came running at me.

The moment I reduced Sif to a hobble, I really didn't feel like killing him. The moment I did was a pretty intense rush of mixed emotions. I was glad I was victorious, but I felt really, really pissed about having had to kill that creature. I had to quit the game and pause for a while.

But I really have to say it again - every boss fight is pretty well set up and impressive in its own right. The rush of the first encounter with the Minotaur demon, the first time you make it to the roof of the chapel, the first time you meet Queelag, the first time you enter Mr. Deadly Blind Dragon's cave, the first time you get killed half a dozen times or so by Ornstein & Smack-a-Hero... it's all good in my books. And it made so many AAA title rides pale in comparison.

With the DLC, I was amazed, impressed and just plain stunned by the Manticore encounter. What a way to roll out the unwelcome mat. Major kudos to From for that one, ballsy move that's consistent with what I got out of Dark Souls up to that point.

If we include the DLC in this vote, I think I would have to go with not-so holy anymore Knight Artorias. He's quite the wicked one, isn't he. I screamed out in agony and amazement at his various surprise moves. He's pretty much 100% pure nightmare material. I wonder what he was like before the Abyss took him and he... turned. Hey! That's actually an origin or prequel material story I'd give a flying melonfarming farm about - The Adventures of the holy knight Artorias, from the moment he picked up his sword to his untimely demise. As long as it's not handled by George Lucas, not written by anyone working for the Bioware Brothel Softcore Porn Gang and not including any Jar Jar Binks, I think that would actually be something awesomely good.

Awesome, awesome 'game'. I found it to be quite inspiring and metaphysically challenging at times, nothing like any other game I've played... ever.

Ornstein and Smough right now is my favorite. This battle just felt very polished to me. Everything from the exploding pillars to the sweet soundtrack and second half of the battle with Super Ornstein or Smough. It's very cool.

I prefer calling them Fatboy Slim, it gives me the justification of playing Weapon of Choice in the background.

I'd also like to add the Gargoyle Boss fight atop the church too, not only because of its great view but also because it was the first boss fight that really tested me. Dark Souls was my first in the Souls series, and I started out as a thief. Up until that point my only strategies consisted of kiting and backstabbing with the Bandit's Knife, or blocking with the Target Shield and retaliating with a Battle Axe. After getting my ass kicked several times trying to dodge its flames and deal any discernible amount of damage, and then getting it kicked several more times when I finally got him to half health and the SECOND one joined in, I finally took a minute to think about strategy and sort through all the weapons and armor I had gathered up to that point. It was then I had realized I had picked up several pieces of armor with fire resistance, Grass and Dragon Crest shields, and a Balder swag sword. Through some trial and error I also discovered that blocking the flames with a shield larger than a clipboard as well as kiting while two-handing a weapon were viable options. So really I have this boss fight to thank for preparing me for the rest of the game (and the view from the top of the bell tower was all the sweeter considering all the trouble I had to get to it).

i cant believe so many people have said moonlight butterfly. that boss was so boring and easy. favorite boss...? can i do demon's souls instead? i didnt really find any of the dark souls bosses to be that great, but demon's souls had so many amazing bosses. false king was the only time my hands were literally shaking when i won. flamelurker was such an intense fight. i was so proud when i was able to kill him without exploiting glitches. and the blind warrior, while not really a fun fight, was a really really neat concept

Gaping Dragon would be one of my favorites. Along with Snuggles & Ornery. Just the battle itself along with the music playing along with said battles, makes it feel disproportionately epic, and I love it.

I would say I loved the battle with the Manticore Sanctuary Guardian but that thing is fuckin' mean.
