Yo escapists,

Simple question are there any movies that you like but did bad at either the box office or review wise?

And by favorite bad movie I mean a movie that you genuinely like whether it be for the actors, plot, director etc. and not "you like it because it was so bad it funny" kinda bad.

For me it would be Wild Wild West, after seeing that movie several times I still like it. I liked the plot and the actors and I don't really understand why it didn't do well.

So what's yours??

Does Evil Dead: Army of Darkness count? If so then that one. I also liked Scott Pilgrim even though it did horrible at the box office.

I really enjoyed The Green Hornet. It was an awful movie with one of the most unlikeable protagonists I've ever seen, a sidekick that you could barely understand due to a thick accent, and it was overall an absolute mess.

But I loved it because, more than anything else, it was FUN. It was exactly what I expected it to be from the trailers: a dumb, over-the-top, stupidly funny action movie. It delivered perfectly in all of those regards.

It would be much harder for me to name a movie I love that did well at the box office. Actually, I can't think of one off the top of my head... but I don't exactly file away box office figures in there.

I'd have to say Starship Troopers. It cost 100 million to make and grossed 65 million worldwide.

More of a cult classic but "The Warriors" is a wonderfully cheesy film (loved it as a teenager) but watching these days it is a bit crap, pretty sure gone off topic here so I'll simply say "nooo, the warriors did it!"

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, although I don't know that you'd say it TANKED... It's profit never did outweigh its budget, however.

1. Stars Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro. 'Nuff said.
2. Movie about an increasingly neverending drug trip and shows use and effects on the mind of more illegal substances than anything else I've ever seen. Incredibly interesting.
3. Not quotable, but you'll want to.
4. Only makes sense if you watch it more than once, but once I did, I couldn't believe how I had overlooked it for so long.

One of my favorite movies of all time, really.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

There's just so much wrong with that movie, but I enjoy it quite a bit. I'm not sure why.

Ultraviolet perhaps, or DOA. Not supposed to be taken too seriously.

Mind you, Ultraviolet made a profit (just), whereas DOA really didn't.

Equilibrium. Reviewers hate it, it only grossed about 5 million, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Half the stuff I like the most tend to be movies that are both critical and box office bombs, and at the least I've found that if critics praise a movie too much it's less interesting to me.

A couple of the main ones that comes to mind is Rock and Rule, The Plague Dogs and Cool World. And yes, I have an affinity for animation and tend to give it a bit more of a bump vs. live movies.

The Fast and The Furious 1, 4 and 5.

I know they're abominations of cinema but I love the cheese.
