There are a wide range of people in fiction with the title of captain. They could be captain of a ship, hold the military rank, just have it as part of their nickname, whatever. What I want to know is who's your favourite fictional captain?
I'll get the obvious out of the way first, for me the answer is Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly/Serenity. He's the Captain of the ship Serenity and is a war veteran who fought on the losing side. He's kind of a ass at times but he's genuinely a good person, cares about those close to him, is funny, is pretty badass and at the end of the day is just damn likeable.

Yeah Mal Reynolds is great, but personally I still like Captain Jean Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise

It's been a while since I've seen the original series, though... (as well as not know about the movie that was made last year...) But, I do remember enjoying him for the fact that he only did the stuff that he did mainly for what he believed in...

Other than that... Long John Silver from Treasure Planet?

Captain Walker. No, not the one you're thinking. The one that didn't come home and whose unborn child will never know him. We believe him missing with a number of men, don't expect to see him again.

Captain Haddock, of course! Not only does he possess the requisite alcoholism, but a veritable smorgasbord of curses to boot!

"Billions of bilious blue blistering barnacles in a thundering typhoon!"

Much like Ralph Fiennes, he simply steals the show.

I want to say Captain America. I REALLY want to say Captain America. However, I just finished watching Gokaiger a few days ago. So I am obligated to say Captain Marvelous. The fucking swaggiest ranger to also be a pirate:

I forgot this guy.

Captain pugwash was a cartoon that if your under 20 and not british you probably wont have heard of. It was basically the rudest kids cartoon ever jam-packed with innuendo. His trusty first mate was called "master bates". It was classic british kids TV

I kind of liked "Lucky Jack" Aubrey, from Master and Commander: Far side of the World.

Definitely Capt. Jack Sparrow. He might not be an incredibly deep character, but his odd personality and hilarious antics gave him more than enough charm to make him an entertaining character throughout the movies.

The Sisko is of Bajor.

I also have to give it up for Captain Obvious. He would have mentioned the finger.

Captain Crunch.

Why not? If you were part of his crew you'd never mutiny because you'd always have plenty to eat.

Captain Charles "Chuck" Simian.

I loved that show, so many good voice actors. James Avery, Michael Dorn, Dom Irrera, Malcolm McDowell, Maurice LaMarche, etc.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard, of the U.S.S. Enterprise

This is a man I would follow into hell (and considering some of the baffling shit Starfleet makes him do, that could happen) with nothing but a chipper 'Aye captain'.

Seconded. I'd follow that man to Hell and back.

With an emphasis on the "and back" part. (Hell's like Tokyo; fun to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there.)

Damnit, you stole mine!

Oh well I'll go with Simon, captain of Team Dai Gurren and the successor to the Mighty Kamina!

Since the good captains that I've known are taken, let see if anyone else know about these two captains-

He was the star of Comic, a childen comic/ magazine that had adventure puzzles in it. In saying so I was more of a fan to his partner, Segant Star

There are just so many good captains, it's hard to chose just one.

I'll go with Captain Janeway. Stranded with no real hope of getting home, still soldiering through and also while showing signs of "humanity", I.E flawed but brilliant.
